I don't like wearing a suit at work

Today I am wearing a suit at work. I do not like wearing this suit. Even though the company I work for a suit is standard dress I am exempt from this rule on a normal day because of the specific job that I do as an off site vendor in a casual work environment. Today is different. Today I have to attend the yearly snoozefest corporate kickoff meeting. This meeting doesn't start until 2 pm so until that time I am stuck here in my regular office wearing the suit while those around me will be wearing their regular clothes. I stick out like a sore thumb. Now don't get me wrong it's a nice suit. It's brand new and given to me by my parents for Christmas. It fits really well and I have a nice new tie to go with it however it's the comments I don't like. I know today I will get the standard odd looks. Someone will ask me "Who died?" in a morbidly joking manner. I am sure to get asked not once but several times if I am going for job interviews today. Yeah right, like that's what I am doing in this economic times when I love my job is advertising that I am looking for something else. Yeesh. Anyway that's what I am going to have to put up with until I leave to go to the meeting after lunch. You work people have a good time making fun of me in my suit. Laugh it up.

(Don't forget to check back this afternoon for the Tweet of the Week winner. I will be at my meeting but will have a post go up)

Who the hell has a "Kick-Off" meeting at 2 in the afternoon? People will be half asleep from eating lunch and will be looking forward to going home.

Don't wrinkle your new suit when you fall asleep in your chair. Cheers Doc!!

Where I used to work, a large office, whenever any of the men wore a suit, everyone would ask him "What time is the job interview?"

Matt: If there is a good thing about it after the meeting there is a "reception"

Secretia: I literally just got asked where I was preaching today? WTF???

I know you'll be glad to get home and get into your comfy pants and crocs later on! :-)

I think most men in suits have a certain look... like little boys who'd rather be wearing their play clothes. It's endearing.

I know you will be anxiously awaiting getting comfortable and out of that suit!

Well if you would have changed your 23 year old hairstyle….. .while wearing the suite you would not have that problem! They would notice your hair not the suit. Those who have known you that long…..know what I am talking about…. Gumby!

At me old job I worked with kids in a really rough school and I stopped in one day dressed formally cause I had a meeting later. In the office they asked if I was from Child Protective Services. I never walked in that school dressed up again.

My office was business casual, but I always kept a suit behind my office door in case there was a "go to court immediately" situation. But even in a business causal environment we always had a lot of people who wore suits every day because they were just old school.

I am sure you look very handsome.

ETW - you got it!

Mrs. D - I hope I don't look like a little boy... LOL

Mandy - I can't wait for 7 pm

Belle - Hmmmm is that a big time slam on my hair?

Doc said...

Paige - HAHAHA.. Child protective services!

Karen - Thank you... BTW I used to do the same type thing, but it's so far in between 'suit' days that I don't anymore. I usuually have plenty of notice.

Doc....That would be a NO....I was just simply giving you an option to do your hair different on the days you have to wear a suit! It may take away some of the attention from the suit.....and how many nicknames do you have anyway?

I can't do my hair any differently... If I don it any differently it would be bald. Now that would take the eyes off my suit for sure!

You could have just brought the suit with you and changed in the bathroom at lunch. Kind of a hassle though.

But, on the positive side, you get treated a lot better at the strip club when you come in wearing a suit. haha ;-)

Don't you just hate that? I get that too when I actually wear a dress or skirt. Get over it people, it's just clothes!

(Deep down, don't you kinda feel good though, kinda like a million bucks wearing it? Watch out GQ..Doc's coming after you!)

You should play up and say you wanted to feel like Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris from How I Met Your Mother) for the day. Say things like "Suit Up!"

Or you could be like it was dirty clothes or this. Deciding to be a nice office mate I chose the suit. Maybe next time I won't be so nice.

Like Billy Walsh always says, 'Suits suck!'

Jay - I was going to originally do that when I thought it was later inthe afternoon. But considering I have to leave now it wasn't worth it.

Chandra - I sort of feel that way... but still wish I had on jeans.

Disaster Chick - LOL @ Neal Patrick Harris... Great Idea

Mt. Cat - Yessir!

My hubby has to wear a suit to work (most days) and when we got our boys suits for Easter mass my oldest kept calling his suit his "work clothes". HA! I thought that was so funny because growing up my dad worked in a factory and his work clothes were NOT suits. Hehe.

It is nice to dress up once in a while, just not everyday. When people make comments just say, "What are you talking about? I wear a suit everyday? Where have you been?" ;)

My office is business casual and I wore a "suit" today... (as did many others)
I guess I've finally gotten used to wearing "dress clothes" but I sure *hated* it when I started this job!

But anyway, just remember that every person with a snide comment is jealous of how good you look in your nice suit... so just smile and wink when you're asked ridiculous questions. ;)

My office is a casual environment, but once in a while there's a need to step up the wardrobe for some reason or another. I actually enjoy getting dressed up now and then. Maybe it's a girl thing.
