Thursday Random Thoughts 1/21/2010

Stuff I have been thinking about:

- So apparently with Titanic and now Avatar James Cameron is the King of the World. Speaking of which I have absolutely no interest in seeing Avatar whatsoever. I think my interest in Sci Fi ended with Star Wars.

- I'm not usually a snooze button hitter but the difference between 5:08 am and 5:18 am made all the difference on Tuesday morning.

- I am all about shooting the messenger.

- I am telling you this It's not a good thing when you get an email and the subject line is "Mr. Douchebag is now following you on Twitter."

-I read the other day that Tim Tebow and his mother are filming a commercial to run during the Super Bowl that is sponsored by a religious organization. It's an anti abortion commercial and apparently tells the story that Tim was an at risk pregnancy for his mother and the doctors advised her to terminate the pregnancy. Obviously she didn't and see what a life was saved. Not trying to start an abortion debate here at this time and not a big fan of Tebow but I bet this will be a pretty pointed commercial. Something to think about.

- This past month I shattered the old text messaging record of about 10,000. New record is 18,600!

-Last night I went to the Charlotte Bobcats game and not only did they win but they blew out the Miami Heat by 40 points. This team is really good. They are 9-1 in their last 10 and are now in 5th place in the East. Watch out NBA the Bobcats are going to be a tough out in the playoffs!

- So Jersey Shore is the newest trashy reality show flavor of the month. I have never seen the show but I am listening to a few of the participants on the radio right now and Oh MY we are in trouble if these kids are our future. As someone who spent summers during my childhood growing up at the Jersey Shore I am appalled at these idiots. I am sure the city officials of places like Wildwood, Ocean City and Seaside Heights must be so proud. I bet this show is even worse than Rock of Love or Flava Flav's show.

- You know a movie that I haven't seen in a long time that I need to see again? Johnny Dangerously. What a great hilarious movie!

- Is the opposite of being on the "up and up" being on the "down low"?

- What exactly is my son's fascination with toilet paper? He is potty training now and is so distracted by the TP that he forgets to go to the potty. I guess it's the rolly aspect of it. Anyway have any other parents found their child to be fascinated by the TP? Is it just a boy thing?

Until next week...

-Doc

Oh BTW - Vince (The Mt. Cat) has a post going up tomorrow about the strange and debatable surroundings of his birth.

If only Focus on the Family weren't a bunch of bigoted, finatical d-bags, I'd be ok with it. But they're a farce to families...at least families that aren't exactly like their's.

*fanatical* sorry about the spelling error.

Your WRONG...about Avatar, it's more a love story than a sci fi. Did you like the movie, Dances with Wolves? Go see it dude!

I don't think that's what "being on the down low" means, lol.

Give your son a roll of tp to make a mess with and have fun and maybe he'll get it out of his system.

And I couldn't make it without a snooze button.

As someone who grew up spending my whole summer at the Jersey shore - and specifically in Seaside where the show is filmed - I could not be happier with the show. That is what is it is like! You don't go to those clubs (XS, Bamboo, Temps, etc.) is you don't want that Guido scene. There are plenty of places at the shore for families or other social scenes, but that Guido culture does exist and it is awesome.

And FYI, one of those girls is in Veterinary school (which is one of the hardest career paths I can think of!) and one of the guys is in law school. Just because people like to party and let lose doesn't mean they are not smart and have no future. I have spent many a summer night dancing my butt off in those clubs and I am still a contributing member of society.

I had no interest in Avatar but we went to see it anyway. It was a struggle to stay awake.

I can't really comment about boys being fascinated by toilet paper, but I wish someone could explain why it's my dog's favorite thing to steal and tear up (other than my shoes). Of course he is a MALE dog, so maybe it does involve gender.

Anon - I am not familiar with the group but if they are willing to pony up money for a Super Bowl ad they can pretty much say whatever they want.

Mic & Paige - you guys seem to be at odds on the Avatar thing... Is it just Titanic in outer space?

Karen - I love the Jersey shore too... I guess the Guido scene is just something I don't get.

3 Men - I don't think it is either... and thats a good idea about the TP

Avatar 3D was awesome! Go see it…..I don’t know what is wrong with Paige because the colors in this movie were so bright….how could you fall asleep?

I put Cheerios in the toilet for my son to aim at and that seem to keep him busy.

Dazzle your son with stickers and a sticker book, get lots of stickers and put them in a container. He will be so busy sifting thru the stickers, the TP will seem like snooze-ville.

Also, my son was born at 28 weeks, which many late term abortions are done around that time and later. We were also told that he probably had spina bifida and should think about terminating. Thank goodness a level 2 ultrasound showed no problems and even though he was early, he has thrived and is important in this world.

Belle - Ok another vote for Avatar... Im not gonna see it in 3d though. More like DVD

ETW - We do have tons of stickers and books and stuff and we give him 2 M&Ms if he does #1 and 3 if he does #2. Still he grabs at the TP...

Mt. Cat - "That's not what I said??" "Yeah but I know this grapevine!"

I am the snooze button queen! I set my clock 45 minutes fast just so I can enjoy the extra 5 snooze sessions and quick dreams.

I love snooze. Although I read somewhere that you end up more tired during the day if you hit snooze. It's better to just get up and get going. It might be true, but the bed never feels better than it does during that "snooze time".

No, not interested in Avatar. Doesn't appear to be my kind of movie. Maybe I'll catch it on DVD one day...if I'm that bored and there's NOTHING else to do. At all.

terri said...

I never used to hit the snooze button either, but the last few years I have been. I need to wake up in bed for a good 15 minutes every day.

I won't see Avatar either. I rarely go to movies. And I don't feel like my life is missing anything because of it so why bother?

I look forward toe the calm, reasonable discussion over CBS's decision whether or not to air that Tebow ad.

I actually turn my alarm off before it goes off because I can't stand the noise it makes. I found my 13 year old daughter trying to DVR Jersey Shore....WTH!! Banned from our house...yuck!

Or maybe we could just haze the messenger a bit?

I'll be interested in seeing Tebow and Mom's commercial. Telling the story - giving their personal history - should go over OK. If they get preachy with it their message could get lost.

Everytime Tebow was on our TV with his under-eye-witness, my 8 year old son would grab his Bible and look up the verse. I wonder how many other people did the same thing.

Have a great weekend Doc!
