On Monday, I bought a new microwave (pictured). An Emerson; good quality. I bought it at a small department store five blocks from my apartment. I did not have a car and I could not find a cab, so I carried the 30 odd pound thing, in it’s box, all the way home. Again, it is only five block but they are long blocks. It didn't feel too heavy, just cumbersome. I stopped a few times to make sure I didn’t loose my grip. Finally I got it home and my arms were in so much pain I could barely hold a coffee cup! My joints are still sore but it was a good work out nevertheless!
Anyway, let me get to the point of my story. I took it out of the box and set it on my kitchen table. Now look at this photo again. Doesn’t it look odd to you? The white on the left is part of the door. The inside of the door looks cut off and looks uneven. It bothers me. Now the photo on the box looks sort of the same but for some reason it looks better than the real thing. I can't really explain it but trust me it does.
On the bright side, it works fine. A lot better than the microwave I had before. Just this one bothers me esthetically. Now I am debating on returning it and search for a nicer one at another store. But it was such a bitch to get to my apartment, it will be a bitch to return.
Now what do you think I should do? Should I keep it? Should I return it? Am I psycho?
Oh and I almost forgot, I had to use two $25 gift cards and cash to buy the blasted thing. The woman teller at the store did not know how to debit from two gift cards and said she can only use one card. I was arguing with her to call a manger to help her out as I’ve used two gift cards to buy big items before. This is not rocket science for crying out loud! Finally she caved and called her manager who took forever to debit the cards! So if I return it, they may not know how to refund back to two gift cards!
I think I got to bite the bullet on this one and keep it. I’d like to hear your opinions. Thank you.

To Microwave or Not to Microwave? That is the Question!

TAKE IT BACK!
Stuff like how it looks weird (and it totally does!) and the uneven door and whatever really eats at me. If it were mine I would stew and stew about it if I kept it and would eventually return it b/c it would drive me nuts.
If you don't take it back, you'll get irritated about the things that bug you every time you look at it.
And why IS the door like that? Was it made in North Korea or something?
Well, it does look a little odd. I would take it back. It would bug me because the window doesn't look centered and I'm all OCD about those things.
But, maybe you'll get used to it. Especially if it works fine.
LOL - I am laughing just picturing you carrying the box all that way !
Nah!!!! Keep it!!!!!
You can't beat a bit of odd!!!
It'll soon be part of the family and you'll be talking to it.
We've had our microwave for 20 years and I've had lots of interesting chats with 'Mikey'.
I'll leave now......
Take it back, you need the workout. Don't call ahead to see if the transaction with the two cards can be worked out for a trade on another nuker, that way they may say no, we can't return this. We're very sorry! Then you get to carry it back to your apartment again, get another great workout and have even more blog fodder for the next day.
That's what I'd do.
I say keep it. How many do you see like that? It's more than a Microwave, it's a piece of art...or something. Cheers Doc!!
It works, keep it... as a matter of fact use it to do cardio workouts... Lift it daily in sets of 10 to keep in shape!
ha! Thanks everyone. I think I will keep it. It will grow on me. It kicks ass actually. It heats my coffe in half the time than my old one!
It does seem a little asymmetrical. What's with the cream color on the left side? It would drive me crazy. But, I realize not everybody's as OCD as I. If you like it keep it!
Yeah, it's odd looking. I dig it. Soon enough everyone will have an awesome new uneven Microwave that saves you minutes on coffee heatage. I'm already getting jealous of it.
Keep it. It works well and will be a conversation piece for years to come.
If you take the microwave back, it will wind up on the Island of Misfit Appliances. Keep it out of compassion Mountain Cat.
Plus, that's more convenient.
Keep it if it works. If Home Beautiful comes for a photo shoot they will bring you a different microwave anyway.
I think the look of it would bug me, but not enough to go to the effort of taking it back. I say keep it. You might get used to it.
Vin, you know that would bother me if I had to look at it all the time, but then again, you will get used to it, as long as it works great.... You cant make that trip again lil cuz
Welcome back to Knight!!!! I hope that you are back... We have missed you.
LOL @ Mt. Cat and his microwave
Welcome back to my cousin Pat B too! And congratulations on your daughter Mallory's wedding!!
The kind of person I am? I would NOT be able to keep it. Just looking at it in the picture bothers me so I can't imagine having to look at it up close and personal every day!
I say keep it. Although, it would probably drive me crazy, in my kitchen...but, you do have a pretty good story to go with it, anything else would pale in comparison.
Return the f*cker. Every SINGLE time you reheat/cook ANYTHING that thought is going to cross your mind and make you even more INSANE than you already are :) -E. Diddy
Furthermore, I have been on this housekeeping/coordinating trip for the past 6 weeks, including storage bins, vacuuming, framing photos/pictures, hanging things, replacing lighthousings, packing away extra coaxial cable, rearranging rooms, getting old computers up and operating for guests, etc. and one thing out of place would throw my OCD into revolution of megalomaniacal proportions.
It does look odd but the white on the door looks good next to the toaster, better than say black or stainless. I'd keep it because I'm not all OCD like that. My Hubs would proably be very unhappy with it. You could always put a static cling design on the door.
