Weekly Poll

So I was wondering now that we are half way thorough the Olympic games in Beijing how everyone is enjoying them. Before the games started I really had no interest in them, however as they have gone on my interest has picked up a bit. With nothing much else on TV I have been tuning in in the evenings to see what is going on. For sure the swimming and Michael Phelps story has added to the interest of the games for me but that is now over and I think that now I will still be watching to see if the US can beat China in the medal count and score more gold.
How about you? What do you think about the Olympics now that we are halfway through? What is your interest level? What events are you enjoying or are you still looking forward to?

I really enjoyed watching Phelps.
Now I'm only interested in finding out whats going to come down, with those Chinese babies in gymnastics.
NO WAY are they all 16 years old!

I am addicted. I have been dismounting and posing for the judges after everything I do.

I got a little teary on Sat night when the Phelps won with the relay team. The images of his mom and sisters were touching.

I really enjoyed early on watching the ass fest take place, courtesy of the Argentine female field hockey team. Fiesta, Baby. Cheers!!

LOL @ Matt

I am trying to see if there is any competition coming up this week worth watching. Oh and just an FYI synchronized diving is very very boring to watch.

I, like Doc, had little to no interest during all the pre-Olympic hype...I even missed out on the opening ceremonies, which I hear were phenomenal! (I have to go find it on You Tube...)

Anyway, I tuned in one night b/c there was just nothing else of interest to me on tv...and now I'm hooked! I find myself fighting sleep night after night cuz I don't want to miss anything!

I'm p.o.'d cuz I missed Phelps win his 8th gold medal. ...and I fought to stay awake to see Nastia win the gold in the all-around women's gymnastics, but had to catch the news in the morning.

I didn't think I would have much interest in some of the other games, but am finding that I have some level of interest in each. As boring as some people might think it is, I'm looking forward to the diving...

I could click away and not reveal my dirty little secret....

No television.

Well, we have a TV and dvd/video thingy that we watch but no actual television programming. No Idol. No Dancing with the Stars. No Lost. No Olympics. No nothin. We opted out and have stayed out.

Subject to change now that it is about to be Alabama football Season and we know NO ONE down here that we can mooch TV time off of.

All of this to say... nah. I don't get into the Olympics.

Hoop, who has never expressed an interest in this stuff before, has been watching them every night. He falls asleep on the couch watching them. I wake up to them. It's driving me a little batty. I'll be glad when the olympics are over.

You know, the Olympics have really lost their "luster" in my mind. They've become far more about politics and far less about the incredible dedication and talent of the participants. It's too bad ...

Seriously, Doc? Synchronized Diving is awesome! Not only do you have to be perfect, but you have to trust someone else to perfect exactly at the same moment you are. That is one of my favorites.

Ya know, I couldn't give two shits about the olympics but I've actually been enjoying them. I've liked watching the MP saga. I think that is actually what got me into it. I've also watched diving, gymnastics, running and sone other stuff. It was actually exciting to watch the womans marathon.

Oh, but I think for the most part, the commentators are insipid.

Karen: I guess that the diving thing is more like once you have seen it once (and the chinese were gonna win) then I was through with it and last week it seemed like that, gymnastics, swimming, and beach volleyball were all that was on. I had to go looking on alternate channels for basketball and stuff like that.

Lu... they have shooting sports at the Olympics - I figured you would love that!

Weclome home Dana!

I love it! And I'm inspired (for now, anyway.) trying to work out more, walk, eat right. Recently bought a juicer...

That sync diving is totally awesome.

But I gotta say, I don't much like professionals in the Olympics. Should go back to the way is was...

Hey Christine (my sister), It seems we have two Christines as our regular readers. May I suggest you change your name to 'Sis Chris' or something like that to avoid confusion? :-)

Done.

I LOVE the Olympics!!! I look forward to them every 4 years. My favs to watch are diving and gymnastics although I did enjoy beach volleyball and some of the track and field events as well.

I'm tired now b/c I've been staying up late to watch them. NEED. MORE. STARBUCKS.

Lu--I also enjoyed the women's marathon. Bummer for Deana Kastor though!

Doc--It won't let me vote!

Sister Christine
Oh the time has come
And you know that you're the only one
To say O.K.
Where you going
What you looking for
You know those boys
Don't want to play no more with you
It's true

You're motoring
What's your price for flight
In finding mister right
You'll be alright tonight

Doc, I would have loved to see the shooting events, but they weren't on in the evening. I don't record tv programs. I just catch what I can.

yep... G has a great commentary on the games over at Whole new G.

I've watched all of about 6 minutes of the Olympics. Last night in fact.... during the commercials of "The Roast of Bob Saget" on Comedy Central.

The Mountain Cat said...

Leighann,
The Bob Saget Roast was a riot. Nothing was sacred. The worst was that Mary-Kate Olsen/Heather Ledger joke Greg Giraldo made. Ouch.

I've watched bits and pieces. I tuned in just in time to see Phelps swim a few times. I watched some USA v. Poland volleyball and even watched some handball. Mostly I watched handball to try to figure out the rules.

But, I've probably not watched more than 2 hours total.
