After this past weeks 4th of July holiday with all the cookouts, the Nathan's hot dog eating contest and the other celebrations I got to thinking about hot dogs. I think they are an All American kind of food. It seems that there is as much diversity in how we top our dogs as America itself. Just doing some quick research I found over 10 separate "types" of dogs including Chicago-style dog, Coney Island dog, Fenway Frank, Southern style dog, and Kansas City dog. All of these topped with a different array of yummy garnishes.
This week's poll asks what you top your dog with? I tried to include as many as possible but I am sure there are others. Feel free to tell me if I missed what you like on your hot dog.

So many people already voted and yet not a single comment yet? I don't eat "dogs" much but when I do I have to cover it with sauerkraut and spicy mustard. It needs a lot of strong flavor especially if grilled.
I like mustard, relish, and oddly - cheese. Obviously cheese isn't sitting out in most condiment areas so I tend to stick with mustard and relish.
I like Polynesian sauce on my dog. whoops.
I despise yellow mustard. Ick.
I picked onions, ketchup and sauerkraut. Oh, and chili. Yum-o!
just ketchup
I know, boring
I'm Southern style all the way. That's mustard, onions, chili, and coleslaw. Mmm, mmm, good!
Ummm ... hello? Clearly you've never eaten a "real" (i.e. Chicago Style) hotdog because you left off the ingredients. Here are the ONLY topping that should go on a dog:
Hot Dogs ("Best's Kosher")
Poppy Seed Hot Dog Bun
Sweet Pickle Relish
Yelllow Mustard
Claussen Kosher Dill Pickles
White Onion
Tomato
Sport Peppers
Celery Salt
To each his/her own but I ain't even going to try that nasty sounding Chicago dog that Dana posted... YUCK !
LOL!
Kosher Dogs are the Best! I would try it Dana!
I love it covered in Chili and Ketchup!!
Ne
I was scared that you were going to make us vote on Chicago vs. Kansas City vs. Texas. I don't know the difference.
I know I like yellow mustard and kraut. Or Chili with raw onions. Yummy!
The AbsolutHotDog toppings - Ketchup, Spicy Mustard, Mayo, Cheese and Raw Onions. MMMMMMMMM!!!
Chili, mustard and cole slaw!!
Ketchup is an abomination, mayo is unbelievable and raw onions are used ONLY if no men are in sight.
Dana, your dogs sound good but I'm loving the NYC dogs. Particularly Criff Dogs on St. Marks St, you can get bacon, egg, and cheese on a dog. Or green onions, pineapple, bacon, and Terriyaki sauce. My favorite though is bacon and cream cheese. mmmm... anyone up for a trip?
