Be careful where you gesture

I read this news story and just had to share it because I want to save my friends from getting tossed in the slammer. It seems that a poor old lawyer got sent to jail for 90 days because he showed his annoyance at an argument that was being made with a simple but effective gesture that we all have made at one time or another:

AUSTIN, Texas - A flick of the wrist has landed an Austin lawyer in jail for contempt of court. A judge sentenced defense attorney Adam Reposa to 90 days in jail on Tuesday for making a lewd gesture and simulating masturbation while standing before a County Court-at-Law judge in March.
At a contempt hearing Monday, Judge Jan Breland said Reposa, 33, rolled his eyes and looked at her while motioning with his right hand. Reposa said the gesture came from near his hip and was aimed at a prosecutor while discussing plea negotiations in a drunken driving case.

Now who among us can say that we aren't guilty of the same crime as Mr. Reposa? Just a word to the wise to watch out where you make this fabulous gesture because you to could spend the next three months in jail for this horrendous crime.

I can hear the jailhouse conversation now,
"Uhh, what are you in for?"
"Murder, you?"
"Rolling my eyes and fake whacking off in front of the judge"
"DAAAAYUM you ARE a hard core gangsta, now get over here and toss my salad"

Have fun in jail Mr. Reposa. Now I am just doing my job and trying to help out my friends but how freaking crazy is that story?

OK, from now on in public I'll keep my thumb out of the gesture.
Then my defence would be, I was just looking for a ride!

Vin..... Say what you need to say. Say what you need to say. Say what you need to say. Say what you need to say. Say what you need to say. Say what you need to say. Say what you need to say. Say what you need to say. Say what you need to say. Say what you need to say.

It's a sad day when fine upstanding citizens get thrown in jail for shooing a fly away from them. *snicker*

Yep done it. Don't really care for that gesture. So, Snakebite turns to the lawyer, his lip curls up as he makes a feeble attempt at a smile and says. "Yo mouth piece, come and put that gesture to work over here" It's gonna be a LONG 90 days.

Wow, he should have said that he was practicing for a dice tournament!

Hey! Aunt Becky has a new look to her blog. The first part goes with our apparent "Theme of the day". Check it out at Mommy wants Vodka.

That is CLASSIC. I have felt like doing that. But how freaking stupid does someone have to be to do that in front of a judge. I love it.

Karen said...

Leighann - What a good point. You should be a lawyer. More than half of it thinking creatively on your feet.

The Mountain Cat said...

Hey Doc, you know what you can do???
*Mt. Cat motions hand up and down from his belt*

Doc said...

ROTFLMAO @ Mt. Cat !!! - classic!

Karen... I figured you might like this one.. I thought of you when I saw the story actually.

Ken said...

Is there a difference between a man making the gesture, as opposed to a woman doing it?

Obviously the motion for a woman self-pleasuring would be different but I don't think it makes any difference which sex does this particular motion. Everyone gets it's meaning. It's universal.

In the immortal words of Woody Allen: 'Don't knock masturbation, it is sex with someone I love.'

Apple is right... This one is universal...and the up and down motion is supposed to be exxagerated as well...

I make this gesture to my husband pretty much everytime he talks to me. :D

Jay said...

What a dumbass. Now he gets to spend some time in the pokey where he will get to do that for real to his big mean cell mate!

Lu' said...

Oh Doc, so that means most guys are supposed to move their hands more than just a little bit. LOL.

The Mountain Cat said...

Didn't Morris Day & the Time write a song about masturbation?

'Jerk Off! Jerking every night and day.'

Wait, is that right??

Doc said...

I don't think there is anyone who knows you that would be surprised by that...

Doc said...

Jay.. you got it... his cellmate is named Bubba too!

Lu... I know what you are trying to say there... Boooo !

Lu' said...

I actually flipped mine off last night. But just ever so briefly and he didn't see it.

Doc said...

Was that before or after the DQ ??

Knight said...

You can be jailed for making a jesture you see on a daily basis? The guy should have lost his job for disrespecting a judge. Jail is a little over the top, wouldn't you say?

Lu' said...

Before. I can't exacly remember the reason. I think he was playing around and said he'd cancelled my trip to NYC tomorrow. Not allowing me to go HA! that kinda thing.

Lu' said...

Watched Gray's last night and as soon as I saw Dr. Bailey, that word just jumped right into my head.

Karen said...

Knight - We lawyers don't get fired for being "zealous" in our representation of our client. Normally contempt is a badge of honor. Though I am not sure how honorable it is in this case...

Leighann said...

Mt Cat, yes but it's called "Jerk Out"

Jerk out! Jerkin everything in sight!"

The Mountain Cat said...

oh gee whiz thank you Leighann!

Doc, People I can do without:

That just made me laugh so hard! I once got in big trouble in college during an important meeting for rolling my eyes and miming a "blow job" motion.

KaritaG said...

OH, I just saw the comment above. Between Steamboat and Denver there is a fishing place called "Master Bait and Tackle."

I almost got thrown in jail once for rolling my eyes and calling a girl a bitch.

Ahh, good college memories.

I often make this gesture, along with the blow me one.

However, I usually reserve it for stupid drivers instead of courtroom judges.

It's hard to keep up with all this!

Doc, I must say that you are now going to have to keep your hands by your side every time you get an urge to use that hand motion.. lol... Yes Mickey-T... It is hard to keep up with it at times.. I'm 3 days behind in catching up with everyone and all that has been said.
I pretty much lol to all the comments, wishing I was online at the same time as everyone else.
BUT time zones do exist I suppose.
I'm still having trouble being more than one place at one time. I have'nt quiet figured out the cloning process yet...
