I'd like to welcome you all to the DWTS commentary. The premier is next Mon and Tues at 8pm/7 central on ABC with the first elimination being Wed 3/19. This "pre-show" post is to give background on the Stars and start a little banter going between those of us who care and entice those of you who don't (Doc). Now here's what I don't get about guys not liking DWTS...the women are half naked and struting around, shaking things. As Bruno says in this clip "Satisfaction Guaranteed!" Here's the listing of this year's Stars: Adam Carolla, Cristian de la Fuenta, Shannon Elizabeth, Steve Guttenberg, Mario, Marlee Matlin, Penn Jillette, Priscilla Presley, Monica Seles, Jason Taylor, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Kristi Yamaguchi.
Now, as Lu pointed out, the hottness factor is somewhat down in the men. However, I think Cristian is the forerunner in this category. Plus, he's got that spanish thing going for him. Me loves an accent! For the women, there are several good choices. For sheer sex appeal I gotta go with Shannon Elizabeth. Who could forget her in "American Pie"? Watch out though guys, she's got a lot of practice with hustling in her many poker championships.
In looking at natural talent I would say that Kristi Yamaguchi has a huge advantage over the other women. Basically Figure Skating is like dancing on ice so this should be a snap for her. I think that R&B star Mario has got the ability to dominate the men on this one. Unless there is a sleeper here that I'm not aware of.

Thanks for your commentary Apple... I have a question for you. Is Marlee Matlin the hearing impaired actress put on the show for the same reason that Heather Mills was last year, for publicity? Or can she dance? Because apparently they really take this dancing thing seriously...

Yes, Marlee Matlin is the hearing impaired actress. They are using it as a promo saying "she's deaf but can she feel the beat?" It's quite possible she can dance though. Heather Mills did pretty good last year. It'll be interesting to watch.

Ummm....With Jason Taylor in the mix there is no lack of hottness in the group.
I am rooting against Malee Matlin...much like I rooted against Heather Mills. I am just not feeling supportive of the handicapped dancer thingy.
I don't know who I am rooting for yet. I will have to get the vibe after watching a few nights.
I rooted against Heather Mills simply because she's Heather Mills. Her and Omarosa should be fed to hungry rabid wolves.

I would think that Kristi Yamaguchi has an advantage too. Seems like if you can dance on ice skates you can dance in heels.

i don't know if i can stomach anymore reality shows. i have given up tv. it's been 3 weeks since i watched anything except for the news.

This isn't just any reality show. This is CLASSY! There is no back-stabbing or nasty comments...except for what is written here!!! Just talent, or lack there of.

I have not missed one season of DWTS, its just I dunno, I am burnt out. But a week away is a long time and you know us girls we change our minds everyday! ;)~
Does the fact that I only recognize about 1/2 these names (at most) mean I'm watching WAY too little TV???? But I do love the show and I'm with you. Kristie should be able to blow those girls away!
leighann, large upchuck on that there sandwich, get out the plunger even. I usually wait until first dance to make my selection. I just hope Steve's not a goof. I like him. I was anti-Heather because I'm pro Paul. But she did do ok you have to give her that. I am certain that the judging was eased up a bit for her though which isn't right.
I hope Monica Seles is still hot... I wonder if she will make that little tennis noise when she dances?

I'm rooting for Shannon mostly because I think her partner Derek is slamming but hot girls have a tendency to get voted off in the first week.
Come on... Jerry Springer was a contestant awhile back and he outlasted almost all of them. It's becoming a joke... It becomes a popularity contest and not about dancing (or being sexy) anymore. I'm blown away the people didn't let him win. I mean hell, if Arnold can win for governor of California... There's hope for all kinds of washed up stars, yet.
