The Homeless Prophet

Everyday in the 53rd Street and Madison Avenue subway station there is a homeless guy who walks up and down the train platform with his cane and pontificates! He looks like Samuel L. Jackson in the film The Caveman’s Valentine (pictured to the left). But he speaks very eloquently.

Among his random oratory contributions are:

- 'The Kennedy family KNEW that woman (yes, singular) would be the cause for all the war in the land. Can't we just live in peace and harmony?'

- 'Lesbianism is a fact of life! If you touch a woman, who are we to judge if you are going to hell or not?’

- ‘President Bush isn't a liar nor thief. If you elected him, you are just as much to blame! Hillary may cause more damage!’

- ‘Woman invented marriage to torture man. Woman invented marriage to torture man! Man should expect to give up all his power and possessions once he is married.’

I think you see a theme here. I assume he was hurt really bad by a former female lover and he lost all his will to be a normal member of society.

In any event, I look forward to his diatribes everyday. Despite his obvious shortcomings (sic) he seems friendly and I see some people talking to him. UH UHH! Not me! I don't want him to know me just in case he does snap one day and decides to throw the first person he recognizes onto the train tracks!

But I bet'cha he is independently wealthy and has nothing else to do with his time.

LOL, Vin! It's true...he really does look like that!! Too funny!! Oh, and yeah...do not make friends. I believe in love your neighbor, but some you just have to love from afar! = )

Did you know that in Iowa you have to have a permit to panhandle.

That's right, you have to go to City Hall and apply for a permit to sit on the side of the road and hold a sign.

As American as Apple Pie said...

As much as he may have issues with women, I have to agree with him on the Hillary thing. She scares the crap out of me! And that really saddens me b/c I'd love to see a woman Pres. :(

I also agree with his views on voting. Those who elect him are just as guilty. However, if you do not vote, you lose your right to bitch about it!

I think you should start a new feature on this blog. You should get him on video once a week discussing his views on some issue of national importance. Then post the video here. I think it would be a big hit!

i agree with jay. i want video.

LeapO, Didn't I see you having coffee with him at the Europa Cafe yesterday?? j/k.

Leighann, I'd should panhandle on the weekends actually. Tax free money babee!

As American, Hell he is more interesting than those soddy bickering presidential debates.

Jay/Karen, LOL. Homeless cam? Sure I'll put a web camera in his refrigerator box so we can watch him 24/7.

Yes, Mt. Cat...I gave up on finding any normal men in the world and have moved on to the certifiably insane! LOL!!

I'd be happy to talk to him.
Many people choose to be homeless.
Doesn't make them any less important to society.

Been There- Done That

Hey LeapO,

It is not nice to judge. Maybe HE is the normal one and WE are certifiably insane! I know I am.

I agree that Vin should interview him on video and post it here... As a matter of fact I think it should be made mandatory... I am with you Jay!!!

Micky-T,

On The Wire there is a serial killer killing homeless men (Yes Doc I just had to mention The Wire again).

Maybe he's one of these new wave, so-called "Freegans." They opt out of the commercial system and tour garbage dumpsters for anything, including food, they might have purchased otherwise!

I hear ya...I guess it's just a matter of preference when it comes to which kind of crazy you're lookin' for! I'm on the edge of insanity, too...but I just try to stick to my own kind of crazy! = )

...and just to clarify, I'm not passing any kind of judgement here. There's simply a difference between homeless and mentally unstable. Nothing wrong with it at all in either case...you just need to be aware of your surroundings here in NYC. People really DO get pushed onto train tracks, etc.!!

LeapO,

I'm just pickin'.
Yes there are some homeless folks who really do have problems beyond what we can ever fathom.

MickyT, The Wire is a TV show on HBO that I've been obsessed about.

Oh Doc, By the way did you hear the Lilo's Mariyln homage was so popular that the New York Magazine's website crashed? Probably due to the word of mouth spread by YGAAKOBT.blogspot.com!

Leighann said...

Mt Cat, I hate to break it to ya, but the magazine's website most likely crashed because of the vile putridness that is LiLo's naked body.

:)

The Mountain Cat said...

Leighann,
Leave poor innocent Lilo alone!
Everyone deserves a 64th, 65th and 66th chance!

Leighann said...

Okay, because I like you I'll get off her back.

feeling peachy today tmc?

I am with Micky T on this one. I tend to freak out a little while around them.

What ever happened to the terminology HO BO? I would rather be called HoBo if I were homeless, sounds more classy doesn't it?

The Mountain Cat said...

J'ni, Hobo is the wrong word too.
The proper nomenclature is 'Residentially Challenged'.

If he was hurt badly enough by a woman, chances are pretty good she to the lioness' share of that wealth, I'm not saying it was fare, and she put him on the street. He may have chosen to give it all up rather than continue working just to line her pockets any further with his hard earned cash. I've heard of far too many of these disgraces to my gender and the mistreatment thrust upon someone they once claimed to love. Don't get me wrong, if you cheat on me I'll see that you are screwed into the ground. The thing is most of these guys don't deserve 1/4 of the crap they are handed. They were the injured party but stil...

sorry for the typos:

Hey Lulita,
Love how you think on that one. Will you be my friend?

Hey J'Hooni,
It's the mass of humanity with the unknowns, that makes me a little nervous. Not so much the Hobos.

Oh Micky-t I am your friend, your wicky wacky sometimes tacky friend.
