A few updates...

-Last week was a really brutal week at work. In addition to just coming back from vacation I was asked to take on a whole lot of additional work. Back to the days where I had an assistant kind of work. Not sure what I'm going to do but I certainly don't really have any blog/twitter time anymore. Last week was so bad I came home from work Friday very close to a full blown anxiety attack. Thank goodness for the weekend. Hopefully this week will be better but that is yet to be seen. (and hopefully I get a chance to get caught up on reading your blogs)

-Our new roof is going on the house today. This makes me very happy. Insurance took care of the entire replacement cost including the garage that was not effected (so that the shingles will match) Yay, One less thing we need to take care of before selling this house! Now if we could just get someone to take care of paying to replace the carpet.

-If you are a member of the blog and twitter Fantasy football league please make sure that you are ready for the draft. This time next Monday I will be turning on the draft so there will be plenty of time to make trades after the draft is over.

-We found out this past week that Lil Doc will be starting soccer this coming Saturday. Nothing could make me happier. He is excited too. I don't think this 3 year old soccer is going to much resemble the World Cup but it's organized team soccer where I think he will benefit not only from the running around (and getting tired out) but also taking direction and learning rules from someone other that my wife and I. Several of his friends are on the same team so all the parents are going to hang out and watch. And it's safe to assume a few pictures will be taken.

-Summer reading quest update. I am halfway through year six in my summer quest to re-read the Harry Potter series. I am still really enjoying it. Great summer reads. I would be finished except that I took a break and read the new Daniel Silva book while on vacation last week. (The Rembrandt Affair by Silva was great and I highly recommend it as well) Should finish up the Potter Series in about 5- 7 days. Then want to try books recommended to me by The Mt. Cat by Dennis Lehane.

-Is anyone else left a little bit angry that accused Craigslist killer Philip Markoff committed suicide this weekend? This is a person who deserved to have to answer for what he was accused of doing (and apparently did) in a court of law. Suicide is the chicken way out.

-Doc

As I see it, suicide saved the American people money in a trial and appeals and housing and feeding that loser. I am not mad. I am thankful.

I do love Daniel Silva books. I have been reading a lot of "beach trash" and memoirs this summer. But I just started Charlaine Harris's "Shakespeare" series. So far it is not as good as True Blood or her Grave series. I wonder if men read Charlaine Harris. Probably not.

Good luck at work this week.

I have to admit, when I heard about the suicide this morning, I felt like Karen. He will now get the judgement/sentence he deserves, which you can't always say with the court system. Can anyone say OJ?!?! My feeling is that they should do away with suicide watches for murderers; the price of a bed sheet is pretty inexpensive compared to the cost of housing them for decades on death row.

I hear ya on all the work, I have piles on my desk that I just can't seem to get through. As soon as I think I have everything under control, here comes more! I am ready for summer to be over so my work load will become more manageable.
When you do get new carpet make sure to go to Carpet Connection in K-Town. It is very close to your house.
Good luck at work this week!
Btw....the little ones playing soccer is SO MUCH FUN! It will defiantly make a great end to a hectic day!

Funny...we bought the HP series for our kids to read someday and my husband ended up reading them all and loving them! He is currently re-reading the last book sinc the movie is getting ready to come out.

Good luck to Little Doc! Watching little guys that young play is so much fun!

I work out of two different offices. One office I cannot access blogs and stuff.

I have been introduced to Goodreads and Shelfari - great way to keep track of what you read. The more I'm with Shelfari the more I like it over Goodreads - but I still I good reads for other reason so double duty. If anyone wants an invite I'm on gmail as kansasdisasterchick.

Not angry. However, it does create more paperwork for their prison and investigation to find otu why this happened. I wonder how the family feels?

- My biggest thing about the Markoff thing is WHY? In a case like this I think that a trial and conviction can give the family some closure, maybe some answers no matter how horrible they are. This way they have nothing and never got to confront him in court.

-AND it's 10:30 am and the roofers are lost and havent started a job they were supposed to be starting 3 hours ago. GPS cant find our house... HUH? Some of you have been to our house. It's NOT HARD TO FIND!

Even when there's a trial and conviction you still don't get answers. I'm not sure in the case I'm thinking of if he really didn't know or is playing mind games. People that kill outside the act of passion don't think the way a "normal" person would think. Even with suicide - a mentally healthy person won't kill themselves. Personally, I think the suicide may give the family more understanding than a trial might. At least you might be able to convince yourself there might be some remorse.

Karen - the girl that got me to read the True Blood series told me her husband is also reading them. He's a mechanic by trade. He doesn't like the changes from the books to the tv series.

Disaster Chick - I love GoodReads too. They are great for suggestions. I am always looking for new stuff to read.

Thanks for telling me men do read the Sookie books. I am with your friend's husband...I like the books better. But I like the TV show too.

Well, as long as he's dead.

I really don't know that families get all much closure going through a trial and then the years of appeals and then finally an execution. In fact, the whole ordeal is so traumatic that I think this might actually be best for them.

Doc, if I was one of the family members, the only confrontation that would give me any satisfaction would involve me, him, a straight blade, a ball-peen hammer and a pair of pliers.

Karen makes a good point.

Congrats on the new roof! Sounds like you have a good insurance company.
