Roof Damage

The other part of our camping trip that I don't think I discussed on here was the damage we got in a windstorm while we were gone. We came home to find shingles blown off the roof and water damage on the interior of our master bedroom "popcorn' ceiling. The damage was not quite as extensive as this image I found on google but similar. I met with a contractor on Friday and he thinks to prevent it from happening again we need to have the entire roof replaced. *gulp* Since we don't have $7-9 Grand just laying around we quickly called our insurance company. Since I work in the insurance industry I am of course highly suspicious of insurance companies and just spoke with them. Of course they can't come and look until next week when I am up in NY. But it sounds like everything will be taken care of. Anxiety doing much better today than it was this weekend.
Anyone else ever had any roof/storm/shingle damage? Please tell me it all worked out OK.

Apartment living has its drawbacks, but it's pretty carefree living. I don't have to worry about yard work in the heat or shingles on the roof or anything like that.

we had huge damage last summer. a tree fell through the roof and the insurance company paid for everything. it was great. we needed a new roof anyways so it all worked out in the end.

If I remember from previous pictures that you live in a newer home.

My biggest advice is to make sure - even if insurance covers it and they determine the roofer that they will continue to cover the house. I know that seems stupid. The town where my cousin lived had extensive hail damage. Everyone had signs of roofers in their yards. She lived in an older home, and insurance took care of the new roof. However, they dropped her because they didn't like the quality of the roof, and she was like that is who you choose the contractor. Always a good idea to know your state Insurance Commissioner.

I had my roof done a few years ago, but they just went over the one that was there. I thought that was odd.

Karen, that's what they do two times. Then for the 3rd time they take all the shingles off to the board and start again. I had roof damage in 2008 with the wind storm here. The next time I loose my roof [this was the 2nd time since 1991] I'm going to have solar panels put on.

My dad had hail damage a few years ago. Insurance adjuster came out, inspected and paid for a new roof. You will be fine. I wouldn't worry about it at all *and I am a pro at worrying!*

Its been looking a serious damage. You never waste any more time. You should try to go for repair it as soon as possible. I would like to suggest you to change the damaged shingles with the new one.

This won't help you much but I'll tell you about my experience just for fun. I rented a place a few years back and the roof leaked like ridiculously. When I called the landlord she responded by telling me "don't feel so bad my roof has been leaking for months". Difference between you and I lady is that you are making a fat profit off of me. Anyhoodles...I suggested she do something by the next day. When I arrived home from work they had taken my kids kiddie pool and turned it upside down on the roof to cover the hole! It went downhill from there.

We had hail damage on our roof last year and had the whole thing replaced. The greatest part about that is that we were probably due for a new roof within a year or so, just because of its age. The crew that did the work was meticulous and they did a phenomenal job. No complaints here.

Oh man. I live on the Gulf Coast and hurricane wind damage is common place down here. In these coastal counties we are required, by law, to have Texas Windstorm coverage.
Insurance companies suck and there are still houses all over the place that have the blue tarps on their roofs that have been there since right after Ike.
