Thursday Random Thoughts 3/11/2010

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-OK I am going to just put this out there. I watched a new show for the first time the other night and was struck like lightning out of the blue. OMG My oldest running blog crush Aunt Becky from MommyWantsVodka looks exactly just diddly damn like Rachel from the show Glee. See for yourself:

Now I have been stalking Becky for years on the interwebz and have secretly been plotting the demise of her husband "The Daver" so that I can become Big Daddy Vodka, but am pretty sure I never noticed that Aunt Becky had a twin sister. I mean they are either twins or Aunt Becky has been keeping hidden singing talents from me (and the rest of the blogosphere) for years. I just thought she was clever, snarky, and a deceptively brilliant tease with the sense of humor to make both 13 year old boys and 30 something mothers pee their knickers. So what is it Auntie B? Is your alter ego this argyle sweater wearing angel voiced hottie from Glee or is it just your twin sister?

-The second phone line that I rarely use here at work appears to have been taken over by some sort of Spanish Language party line. (complete with a mariachi band) I really need to check that voicemail more often. Seriously I wish I could play these messages for you all.

-I'm not exactly sure what Nutella is... But I am pretty sure I don't want to find out!

-The NCAA tournament starts one week from today and the Brackets will be out this Sunday around 7 pm. I love March Madness, the excitement, teh upsets, and the stories about kids and teams you have never heard of beating the big schools. This year will be extra fun because about 20 or so of you all (fellow bloggers and Tweeters) are joined up to compete in the pool that Jay and I are running. If you haven't signed up yet you don't want to miss it... If you haven't gotten an invite yet please email me. There will be some sort of prize for the winner to post on their blog but we haven't decided just yet what it will be.

-I think that my current favorite Rock (Non Jimmy Buffett) Song of all time is In the City by The Eagles. Awesomeness!

-Save your money and only buy Crayola Crayons. All the rest suck. don't make the mistake I did and make your kid sad. Fork over the extra 50 cents for the real deal.

-Here is a cool one for you. My other brother in law is getting married next month up in New York. We were talking to them this weekend and he said that the lead singer of band they got to play at their wedding probably won't be able to play at their wedding because he is on American Idol. Sure enough Michael Lynche (Big Mike) from the show is the normal singer of the band. That would have been pretty cool to hear him sing live but I am sure he has better things to do.

-Speaking of American Idol the singers I think should go home this week are Tim Urban, Aaron Kelly, Paige Miles, and Lacey Brown... but I think these also should have gone home last week and they are still there so we shall see.

Until next week...

-Doc

I love me some Glee too!! I never put Aunt Becky and Rachel in the same group. They are both pretty, but they don't look alike. Rachel is very ethnic...um Jewish...looking in my opinion and Aunt Becky doesn't have that look. But I agree with you that Aunt Becky is wonderful.

Nutella is heaven in a jar. It is a chocolaty hazel nutty miracle.. I am rarely without it in my cupboard.

Don't hate on the Nutella. It's incredible.

I was told Nutella is the best thing in a jar, but I have yet to try it.

You're totally right about Crayola Crayons. Our schools actually insist you buy Crayola brand b/c they know from experience that the other brands suck.

The AbsolutWife eats Nutella and seems to like it.

BTW, In The City is actually a Joe Walsh song from the late '70s. Its been a favorite tune of mine ever since I heard it at the end of The Warriors. I love that movie...."Can you dig it!"

Doc said...

Absolut... yes In the City is a Joe Walsh sone but it's also the 3rd song on side one of the Eagles 1979 album "The Long Run"

Anonymous said...

Oh, and my favorite Eagles' song is "Take it to the limit".

The AbsolutGator said...

Lady, Take It To The Limit, from what my Dad told me, was the first song I ever liked. I would sing it over and over again as a kid.

Doc, from Wikipedia....
As the Eagles struggled to record the follow-up to Hotel California, Walsh re-ignited his solo career with the well-received album In the City (1978) -- which featured his hit comic depiction of rock stardom, "Life's Been Good". Joe also contributed "In the City" to The Warriors soundtrack (1979), a song penned and sung by Walsh that was later rerecorded for the Eagles The Long Run album.

Yeah... not disagreeing with you Absolut.

I'd have said 'Mummy's had vodka' from the look of that pic...;-)

Doc, I didn't think you were. As a trivia/tidbits-of-knowledge lover, I posted it for your informational purposes.

Absolut - Gottcha!

BTW - ROTFL @ 4 dinners.

(It's not surprising to me that Mrs. D's fave song is Take it to the limit either)

Karen - I swear they are twins...

ETW & Paige - No way! not touching that Nutella stuff.. Scares me. Ive seen pictures!

I *am* actually Rachel from Glee! HOW DID YOU KNOW? Your undercover reporting is definitely worthy of whatever report they give reporters. A Schmemmy or whatever.

Doc said...

I KNEW it !!

Jay said...

I don't want to scare Aunt Becky or anything, but I have a really disturbing crush on Lea Michele. ;-)

No. You DO want to find out about Nutella. It is amazing and delicious and you must try it. It's hazelnut and cocoa spread and is about the same nutrition as peanut butter. I love me some peanut butter and Nutella bagels or toast in the morning. And it's really good on shortbread cookies too.

Seriously try it. I dare you. You'll be writing a post to sing Nutella's praises afterwards, I promise.

Aunt Becky is totally Rachel on Glee...she doesn't want anyone to know, but her favorite song is Defying Gravity and she sings it all the time...out loud...at the hockey rink. Just sayin.

Doc said...

Jay - I will fight you for her!

Terri - Im scared! (plus Im not a peanutbutter fan. roasted peanuts yes but not the butter)

Maniacal Mom - After that song she sang on the show the other night I was transfixed... (and drooling)

You haven't lived until you've spread Nutella all over naked Aunt Becky.

Doc said...

Elly Lou - Now that is an idea I hadn't quite thought of yet. Hmmmmm.

Candice said...

I totally agree with you that the of brand crayons suck balls.

Doc said...

Candice - ONLY Crayola baby!!

Sara @ Domestically Challenged said...

I lost track of everything after the Nutella...YUM!!

Andygirl said...

OHEMGEE Nutella is only the best most hazelnutty, chocolatty spread ever invented. it's good on bread or in a crepe or on waffles or a spoon or even your fingers!

First of all Aunt Becky is all MINE! So keep your mitts off her!
Second of all, The Eagles are awesome! Saw them in concert about 3 or 4 years ago and it was hands down the best concert I've ever been to.
Thirdly, I've had nutella before and it really is good. You should try it with like pretzels to dip in it. Really awesome.
Forthly, I can't count much higher, so I'll just leave off now. ;-)

I can't believe I missed the Aunt Becky/Rachel connection. I definitely need more sleep. Also, Nutella is weird. At first it tastes so good and then suddenly, it tastes like sweet glue.

Doc said...

Sara - Are you serious?

Andygirl - With your fingers? (that sounds kinky)

Halfasstic - Oh she is huh? Well I beg to differ... And yes the EAGLES ROCK!

Jeseygirl - Ah yes - you have finally clued me on the Nutella... I thank you very much for the "glue" information

I, too, hear Nutella is amazing, but what you REALLY don't want to try is Marmite...bet 4 Dinners likes it, however...YouTube "Marmite" some of the videos are hilarious. My Dad, being from England, LOVED the stuff and got Abby enjoying it, too. It is much an acquired taste that has the consistency and smell of engine oil, but is chockfull of vitamins and minerals! ICK!

Just me... said...

Um, have had Nutella.. Not so much a hazelnut paste fan..
But, good cane syrup!? Oy! Pass the biscuits!! :):)

Chibi Jeebs said...

Aunt Becky is MINE, for the record. I have paperwork stating such. So there. *neener neener*

I'm with you on both the Nutella and Crayola.

Nutella is awesome. It comes in little jars that are shaped like tumblers, so you can wash them out and drink whiskey out of a jar and still look classy.

j said...

I think you have outed Aunt Becky... you've totally blown her cover.

Nutela - nope, can't say that I've tried it but Peanut Butter deserves its own food group.

The Mariachi "hold" music cracks me up!

Have a wonderful weekend Doc!

It's great to have all these new and cool people checking out my blog... Thank you Aunt Becky. I need to expose you more often!

Pamela said...

dude. you need to try the nutella. it's hazelnuts and chocolate. so. crazy. good.

break yourself in easy by spreading some on a graham cracker, because eating it off a spoon will only get you in serious trouble.

Jessica said...

One? LOVE nutella.
Two?I've been likened to that red haired chick from That 70s Show (yah. Weird. My hair isn't even RED)

Jessica, it's blond now or at least it was on October Road.
