Weekly Poll - What do you think of Twitter?

Last week we discussed race relations and by the comments and the poll votes it seems that we are divided on where our country stands. This week's poll is a little bit of a lighter topic. Twitter!
Inspiration for this poll came from our friend Mrs. D who writes 3 Men & a Lady. (Give her blog a read. She is both funny and insightful.) Last week she said that she was not sure about Twitter because it can be confusing, however I got an email on Saturday saying that she was now following my Tweets. To be truthful Twitter can be confusing and if you don't know how to use it (a la the Mt. Cat) or an application that sorts your stream for you it's not worth a lot.
Poll question and topic for discussion is what do you think about Twitter? Is it great? Are you a full fledged Tweeter? Are you just a novice experimenting? Do you hate it? Do you find yourself having conversations in Twitter-speak with Hash tags and @ symbols? What say you? Please vote in the poll which will be up all week and comments below.

I enjoy twitter and all the new people I have met. I think its like anything, you get out of it what you put into it.

I have had an account for awhile and am going to start using it soon in order to promote myself in hopes of getting some comedy gigs, but...

It mainly strikes me as a glorified chat room. I think Twitter will stay around, but I bet Facebook (which I rarely use as well) will out live it.

Cheers Doc!!

You need an "I don't use Twitter" option in the poll.

I don't think I'm interesting enough to use Twitter. I'm sure there are incredible things that I'm missing out on by just doing blogs and facebook but I can deal with that.

I'm still figuring it out. How do you add your own stuff to a retweet? And I noticed it's a lot more fun if several people you know are on at the same time. When I was on facebook my favorite part was the updates so I think twitter will work out for me okay. Once you get started it begins to make more sense.

Sorry about not including that Paige... Too early this AM when I made it up.

Mrs. D - Go to tweetgrid.com and choose a 1x1 or 1x2 grid. you can click on the settings and either pull up your followees list or use the search option to search for trenting topics or even your own tweet handle if you have a multiperson conversation going on... from there you can click the Re-Tweet button and add anyting you want. Twitter used to allow this but it has been taken away. I rarely even use the actual Twitter site anymore except to add or delete followers.

I'm glad the answer is on another site and wasn't under my nose the whole time... I was beginning to wonder why I couldn't figure that one out.

I signed up for Twitter but haven't used it yet. I'm not sure that many people would be interested anyway. :)

I see Twitter as a way to connect even more with people you've already met online. Some people think it's replacing blogs, but I think it just enhances those relationships that people have formed through their blogs. Facebook is more of a threat to blogs though.

As Matt-Man said, it IS a glorified chat room. But, it's more fun than that. And more confusing because it's a slow motion chat room sometimes.

It is ok, but I am drive by tweeter. I don't sit there with open all day to check the conversation - which is how you really need to approach it to make it effective.

I will pop on tweet something and not check by for responses for hours or days. So for me, it is not worth it.

Matt and Jay are right on target when they say it is a glorified chat room, but the cool think is that you don't have to be there right at the moment to keep up with the things you want to keep up with.

Most of the people I follow I met through blogging first. I also use it as a new feed and to get idea for blog posts (imagine that).

I was a Twitter hater who discovered it didn't have to be what I presumed it was!

I signed up for Twitter last summer..haven't tweeted since. I haven't had the time to get use to the whole thing. My sister LOVES it.

Barb - you would be surprised at the aquainteneces you can make on Twitter... and thank you for stopping by

Jay - I tend to agree. Twitter's 140 characters can't replace blogs but can make them more accessible

Karen - you are famous for being a run by Tweeter!

Doc said...

Dana - Chat room on roids!

Tammy - it took me a while to get hooked on it... but once I did It has been well worth it.

I've visited tweeters a few times and I think I get the attraction that most people get from it but I think it's to much to add to the plate along with Blogging and Facebook.
Bicky and I are really moving into K.I.S.S. mode. (keep it simple stupid)

Since I literally found out my relationship was completely over via twitter, I am no longer a big fan. But I really thought it was a little annoying before that. Now I stay away as if it were a toxic site.

Doc said...

Christine - That is awful... I would probably hate it too if that were the case.

Karen said...

But how do you have time to follow twitter all day? That would be a full-time job on top on my real job.

Doc said...

Karen - Through text messages... I scan the ones that look interesting and respond. I don't keep the grid up all day.

I have a Twitter account but I don't EVER use it. What am I going to say?

2:07 pm "Ignoring the pile of laundry on the couch right now."

3:35 pm "Still ignoring the laundry."

4:59 pm "OMG! My husband is going to be home any minute! I've got to put the laundry back in the dryer!"

My life is too boring to Tweet.

I enjoy jumping and chatting with people. I've met a lot of really nice people (not in real life, although there is a portion of my followers who are IRL friends).

I absolutely refuse to even look at Twitter because the last thing I need is something else to become addicted to!

I had an account for a while, but I just couldn't get on board. I deleted it.
