Thursday Random Thoughts 5/29/2008

Stuff I have been thinking about:

- I forgot to mention last week that we used some of our "Economic Stimulus" check to get a new lawn mower. OK we did our part to help the economy. Oh and the lawn mower is sweet! I am so glad to get rid of the self-propelled mower that I was using because it was hurting my back. I am happy to have a push mower again.

-I keep having the funny feeling that we have gone too long without a real major news story. When I say major I mean MAJOR. I have a bad feeling that we are due for one soon.

-I was flipping stations on the radio in my car yesterday morning and caught a little bit of the John Boy and Billy show. They were doing a parody song of the Oak Ridge Boys' 'Elvira.' It was called 'Obama' and oh my gosh it was hilarious. I can't remember all of it but the hook was, "to get rid of Chelsea's Mama, go Obama. Yeaaah!" LOL!

-OK, here is the wrap up on "The longest Day of the year." It was a big success. My wife, son, and I discovered that Radio Margaritaville was running replays of live Buffett concerts all weekend long so we hung out on the back deck listening to Brother Jimmy on the SAT radio and chilling with a few Landsharks. (Jimmy Buffett's own beer - I think it's better than Corona) We had some friends come over to pitch horseshoes, watch the race, and grill out. The menu included: chips & dip, grilled flank steak, buffalo chicken bites, BBQ chicken, shrimp kabobs, vegetable kabobs, twice baked potatoes, and other yummy stuff. It was great and yes as promised here are the pictures of the jets flying over our house during the pre-race fly over. (For some reason it won't let you click on them for close ups)

-The most classic line of this past weekend was by one of my wife's good friends. On Monday we went to a cook out at their house and they have a two year old who is becoming quite demanding or "high maintenance" as she calls him. In addition to other things he apparently has to have all of his food cut up in just the proper way. At one point mom was heard to say in exasperation, "Son, I am NOT cutting up Cool-Whip" I couldn't help it I had to bust out laughing.

-Did you know that gasoline is only twelve cents a gallon in Venezuela?

-When you get some time I want to you check out ...And the pursuit of Happiness. It's a good blog read of course but the reason I am highlighting it here is that she is going to be having a "Guess that tattoo" contest next week starting Monday I think. Check it out!

-What is the most embarrassing song that you really like? I will admit to mine. I love the Backstreet Boys song "I want it that way." My wife makes fun of me for it but I don't care.

-Did ya'll hear that the toilet on the International Space station is clogged up and they are having to rush supplies up there on the space shuttle to fix it? Does a certain scene from National Lampoon's Christmas vacation pop into any one's mind? LOL

-I read the other day that scientists are trying to come up with more environmentally friendly bombs. What the hell? yeah you read that right. Bombs that are more environmentally friendly. Look here if you are dropping a bomb on something you sure as heck aren't worried about it's condition after you blow it to smithereens. I wonder what they are going to call these things. Green bombs would be my guess. Yeesh.

Your random thoughts are kinds lame this week! :p

My oldest dauther is high maintenance with her food, if anything touches, she won't eat it.

How many Landsharks did Patrick drink?

Embarrasing song I like.... I can't think of one, but I'm sure there are SEVERAL!

Doc said...

What is so lame about them ??

Doc said...

...and Patrick didn't have any Landsharks of course. He got juice and then a pile of cheerios that he stuck his face in like a dog. The pictures are hilarious.

Doc, my favoirte embarrassing song is 'Bye, Bye, Bye' by the Backend Boys too!

BTW Doc who was that kid in high school who semi-liked the song 'Hangin' Tough' by New Kids on the Block but claimed he hated New Kids on the Block? He told us once that "Hangin' Tough is a song that I would like if it wasn't by New Kids on the Block." Do you remember?

His statement made no sense what-so-ever!

Nice party spread. What news have you been watching? I keep thinking things are getting worse and worse.
I'm not embarrassed by any of my favorite songs but I know others think I should be. One of my favorites ever is "Yellow Snow" I heart Frank Zappa and that tune is so flippin' odd I can't help but love it.

Nice plane pics Doc. I find it funny, that would be funny ha ha not funny strange, that planes and the word tattoo is mentioned in the same post.

Doc, No my borther-in-law got me into Frank Zappa.

That kid was from our high school or Harris Teeter. I don't remember his name, only the conversation. I was hoping you would.

Nice plane pics Doc.

They made three passes before the National anthem was sung so I got a few good shots however I missed the final pass where they were REALLY low becuase I was busy on the grill.

It was only in baby talk but I think Patrick (who was pointing skyward) was actually saying, "Da plane, Da plane Dada!"

I think you might be talking about Brian McKeachern who worked in produce... He went to Central Cabbarus

Doc said...

Leighann... he doesn't need Lansharks to walk around like a drunken sailor !!

Leone de Mountain said...

Hmmmm I don't remember Brian.

But I do remember this SNL skit: Land Shark. Hilarious!!

We're planning a Landshark/Corona blind taste test because Mama G and Part Time Blogger have picked sides and it's getting ugly. I'll keep you updated :)

Completely off topic - all day long I've been dealing with slow talkers on the phone and I'm about to get violent...just an FYI...

Doc said...

Miss Merry... Damn I like that song a little bit too

Doc said...

Leighann and Mt. Cat... SCARY !!

Lu... I think Patrick might have him by an inch.

G... Please let me know on the taste test. I am now all about the "sharks" and sorry about the slow talkers... To bad you didn't talk to me on the phone

Did you know I'd rather pay $5/gallon than live in Venezuela?? *wink*

We'll be fine as long as you keep your bacon grease soaked appendages away from me!

Speaking of which, did you get my email?

So would I but I thought it was just interesting.

Why does using the self-propelled mower hurt your back? That doesn't make any sense!

Those jets scared the sh*t out of my kids. Chile #1 kept running over asking my what was wrong and why were they firing missles at Charlotte. LOL!

Your race spread sounds yummier than mine. We just grilled burgers and had chips, beans & tuna salad. *green with envy*

I learned about Sunshine's tatoo contest last week. I'm entering. See if you can guess which one is mine boys and girls.

Why does using the self-propelled mower hurt your back? That doesn't make any sense!

It's very hard to manuver with stop and start. When you have to push it any it's 3 times as hard as a regualr mower and it's got small wheels plus the handle is down low and you can't adjust it up (i tried) so I was having to stoop over the whole time and that was killing my back. I used the new mower on Saturday and it took much less time than the old one.

Miss Merry Sunshine said...

I wanna tatoo!! You are such a rebel Apple!

Bina said...

First question. A self-propelled mower hurts your back? Why? I'm wondering because my back has started hurting while I mow, and yes, it's self-propelled!

My God that food you guys had sounds so freaking good! And jets flying over? What race? I've been out of the loop since Peach Fest. I have no idea what's going on!

"Not cutting up Cool-Whip". Holy crap. I would have spit beer every where! LOL Thank God I have no high maitenance kids, except the fact my youngest will rarely eat meat, of any kind!!!!! Weird, huh?

Green Bombs. Hmmm. Maybe they have a mixture of grass and tree seeds with fertilizer so after the destruction, things will be planted! LOL

Bina said...

BTW, I've always like, "Please Don't Go Girl" by the New Kids on the Block, and just about every song sung by .... crap. You know, the guys who didn't REALLY sing the songs? Damn! I can't remember!

Bina said...

Ah! Millie Vanillie!!!!

Doc said...

Bina... The old lawnmower was basically a piece of crap and hard to move around plus the handle was too low. The race was the NASCAR Coke 600 on sunday... I live right near the track.... and you description of the green bombs about made me spit out my diet pepsi!!! HAHAHAHAAHAAAAA !!

( I still have my Milli Vanilli CD )

Deep in my bones, up from my gut, I feel it!
Right here at home too!

Micky-T & Doc--you are freaking me out!

Doc said...

Doc: I too feel a BIG story coming!

See, you feel it too. Something big is coming. I just know it.

Apple don't worry about it... you don't watch the news anyway...LOL

Micky-T said...

AAAAPeachy Pie: I don't mean to freak you, it's just this election, war, Osama still loose. The world isn't as peachy as we all would like to think!

Micky-T said...

Doc: It's been about a month, I been feeling this! Telling my wife too!

Dianne said...

your longest day sounds great doc

sunshine's blog is wonderful, I won't have my tat in time to participate but she and Knight inspired me to really do it instead of just design it to death.

I think the freakin' world is full of big news every moment. It's just not covered by our press although they will warn us not to look at Rachel Ray's scarf in a commercial - it's a terrorist scarf!

and we come full circle - bombs get friendlier while scarves become tools of terror.

it is a wonderful world.

Doc said...

Dianne... I swear I had the bit about green bombs written BEFORE Keith olberman reported on it in best persons last night. I even complained to my wife that Keith keeps stealing my material.

and Michele Maulkin needs to go the F away.

Karen said...

I think I should be more high maintenance with my food. Maybe that will help my ass shrink a little.

I could not list all the embarassing songs that I like. Cheesy pop makes me happy. I will go with Grandma's Feather Bed by John Denver.

The plane photos are really great.

As American as Apple Pie said...

Ok, here's my song I like that I will never admit to. And Doc, if you tell a certain person this I will take you out. John Denver "Country Roads". It is just mellow and makes me feel peaceful and relaxed.

Dianne said...

doc - Keith keeps stealing your material cause you're just that good.

apple - I love 'country roads'
we just keep finding such coolness we have in common - DWTS and now music.
