Thursday Random Thoughts 5/22/08

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-I haven't had baby back ribs in too long. I need to get some...soon.

-Thank goodness that David Cook won American Idol over David Archuleta. When Ryan announced the winner he said that Cook got 12 million more votes than Archuleta. In my opinion that gives the show back a little bit of the credibility it has been suffering from a lack of. BTW - Little Archuleta better be glad that the boxing on the finale was just a theme and not how they decided the winner because Cook would have pulverized that little punk.

-HA! I just read where that owner of the company "Lifelock" who gives out his real social security number in the commercials to show that his product will protect you from identity theft actually got his identity stolen by someone in Texas who got a payday advance loan for $500 and he never found out about it until the company called him trying to collect. Serves him right. Idiot.

-We don't go to the movies very often but this summer there are some good looking movies coming out. In addition to Indiana Jones my wife and I want to see Kung Fu Panda. That movie looks funny as heck.

-I am sorry if anyone else is in pain after Peachfest the other day. My carpel tunnel syndrome kicked up on me after all the typing... OUCH !

-Interesting search note of the week. Someone from Los Angeles actually reached our blog by searching the words: anteater, termites, fogger. Thanks to Leighann, Lu, and Anndi for that discussion about Heather Mills wooden leg. I luv ya'll.

-I think I need to buy Cool and the Gang's Greatest Hits. They are awesome.

-Congress was grilling oil company executives about gas prices the other day. Sure I understand supply and demand and the dollar's value and the factors that lead to the cost. However don't try and say that your profits aren't through the roof during this time. Now I am no socialist wanting you to give the gasoline away but please don't patronize us and play the "poor us" role in all of this. That makes us angry. If I had to bet I would say that someday when oil is not the vital fuel that it is today that you guys are going to be coming back before congress with your hat in your hand asking for a hand out and some help so that you don't go bankrupt. We will remind you of these record profits when you do.

-I heard the other day on the radio the other day that Angelina Jolie wants to name her twins Castor and Pollux. Without having to look it up does anyone else catch that reference? (Hopefully Knight does...LOL) If you do catch the reference what ironic name should Brangelina give their next child if it's a girl?

-I like Kid Rock pretty well however I hate that he is sampling Warren Zevon in his new song "All summer long" That song would be fine without "Werewolves of London's" hook in it. By the way, if you are not familiar with any of Zevon's work other than "Werewolves" you are missing out. Look up and listen to his song Excitable Boy. The social commentary contained within was way before it's time but is still relevant today. Also I think his duet with Bruce Springsteen called "Disorder in the House" shortly before his death in 2003 is one of the Top 10 best songs of this decade.

-Speaking of songs they were talking on the radio yesterday about "graduation" songs and how high school students have a graduation song every year. Did anyone have a graduation song? Did we have one Vin? I sure don't remember it if we did. Maybe I am just missing out on something here?

-This Sunday (the day before Memorial Day) is probably my favorite day of the entire year. I call this Sunday "The longest day of the year" referring to the Coca-Cola 600 NASCAR race run here in Concord, NC. Where when we go to the race we get there about 9 am and after the race and the traffic we are rarely home before 2 am even though we only live about 9 miles from the track. This year we aren't going however I still plan on tailgating on my back deck. Maybe I will take a picture of the fighter jets or stealth bomber as it flies right over my house for you guys!

-Doc

I was so very pleased to see that David Cook won. I thought for sure all the teeny boppers would win out. I know I know I read it here that they wouldn't. Yeah for David Cook and what a sweetie he seems to be. Ya know at first I thought he was kinda strange looking but I think he is actually a hottie.

I thought Dean Cook won American Idol?

Leighann said...

Hubby and I were getting frisky when they finally announced the winner of American Idol.... good thing Cook won or hubby would have gotten bit *giggle*

Castor and Pollux were characters in a Nic Cage/John Travolta movie called Face Off. If there's another reference there, I don't get it LOL

I agree about the Kid Rock song. It goes from Werewolves of London to Sweet Home Alabama, why not pick one and stick with it? Or give it it's own sound?

The Mountain Cat said...

Doc,

BTW it is KOOL & The Gang.

I think our graduation song was '8 Ball' by N.W.A.

Doc said...

I was thinking that someone may mention Face Off Leighann... LOL you are correct but not the reference I am looking for. In fact those characters are named that for the same reason Brangelina wants to name hers that.

Doc said...

I thought it might be Kool instead of Cool... After I typed it it just didn't look right.

And '8 ball' wasn't by NWA

Kastor and Polydeukes (Κάστωρ και Πολυδεύκης)

Lu' said...

Mt Cat, the current "you" picture is funny, HA!

Doc said...

Actually I got to thinking about it. The song '8 ball' was on both Eazy Does it and Straight Outta Compton... but the song was Eazy E's. But saying NWA isn't technically wrong. Kind of like saying that "Blaze of Glory" is a Bon Jovi Song.. It kind of is.

HA HA HA ! AND A HEE HEE TOO!

Leighann said...

Well who knew we'd be getting a damn pop quiz today, Doc!

I can't click on that link that Vin put up... however by now I bet you all have looked it up. Anyway I hope that Knight can at least appreciate it...

Lu' said...

The names make me think of oil and a vaccine.

I hope you have a magnifying glass Leighann.

I'm too slow today to be witty or to even google Angelina's names. Yes - too tuckered to google, how sad is that.

My contribution to this high brow discussion will simply be.

Zevon is the best. Have every one of his CDs, never missed an appearance of his on Letterman.

The Mountain Cat said...

Yes those Nelson twins you jackass.

Leighann said...

Oh hell.... someone hold my hand, I'm off to email Mt Cat....

Doc said...

Hey Dianne... Too tired to google wow are you still on a Peachfest hangover?

Karen said...

I am happy about David Cook too.

I have the trial I postponed from Peachfest this afternoon at 3 PM. Sometimes I wish I was more annonymous blogger so I could give the details of this case. It is funny one.

Doc said...

E-mail me the details Karen... I will turn them into an adventures of Doc and the Mt. cat story.

Lu' said...

Karen I bet you lawyers have lots of interesting stories to tell around the cocktail table. My work stories would be quite dull.

Knight said...

I like that idea! Then again I'm a little over obsessed with being a Gemini. I have not followed any details on her pregnancy will they be born soon or is she just doing it because they are boy twins? The next kid should be named Narcissus and then we will see if these sorts of names give children complexes.

Knight said...

Or they could just name the next one Girl. They have to get lazy eventually with all the kids they have to name.

Knight said...

I was looking up the name that's meaning is feminine. In order to be obvious for their next female child but the sad part is that it is MY name. Which is Carly.

Doc said...

Cool - I am glad you caught that one Knight!!

I was thinking they should name the next kid Helen... as in Helen of Troy Castor and Pollux's sister.

And of course Brad Pitt was in the movie Troy.

Lu' said...

knight, I think one of her cast- mates from the panda movie said she is due in August.

Doc said...

LOL @ fruity celeb kids names !!!

Knight said...

Honestly Helen was the first thing that came to my mind but I didn't think anyone would get that! Brad sure did look good in that movie.

Doc said...

HA... that's why I was asking the question to see if anyone got it!

Leighann punched me for giving a pop quiz!

Dianne said...

"Leighann punched me for giving a pop quiz!"

She's generous that way!

Doc said...

You are correct Dianne ;-)

I may have to make one of those every Thursday.

Ken said...

I wanna see Jones too.

"Carpool Tunnel" doesn't effect us two finger typers. Ha!

I have a retired prosocuter friend, who is now helping a young defence lawyer in the same county. Great stories, and he has givin me transcripts to read. Great stuff!

Did anyone else find the irony in the Guitar Hero commercials last night?

Sunshine said...

I didn't watch Idol, but just for the news going around, I didn't want the guy with the psycho dad to win, which I guess he didn't, right??

I saw Indy yesterday (it's good to be friends with someone who manages the movie plex and get to see things ahead of time...woot!) and play a little game and identify which heavy borrowing of The Mummy and National Treasure you can find. It'll be like a game!

Did I miss something and Heather Mills' wooden leg get termites??

Doc said...

Those GH commercials almost made me lose my dinner....

Hey Sunshine...Yep psycho dad boy lost and the Heather Mills wooden leg thing is hard to explain in a short amoung of time but I think you got the gist of it!

Leighann said...

Doc you should be thanking me that all you got was a punch, Mt Cat got a new yo-yo!!

The Mountain Cat said...

Leighann, You can touch my yo-yo anytime babe.

Leighann said...

It's not covered in bacon grease is it??

Doc said...

Ewwwww

The Mountain Cat said...

Yeah Leighann. It will be nice and slippery.

Leighann said...

EW! Forget it, I call Heather Mills and she can handle it for me!

Leighann said...

DOC!!!!

MOUNTAIN CAT ISN'T BEING PG-13!!

Doc said...

STOP IT !!!

Doc said...

...you have to admit that it's pretty bad when Leighann calls someone down for not being PG-13.... ROTFL !!

Leighann said...

Yeah! Stop it!

Leighann said...

You better belive it Doc!

I was almost sorta half way not really offended by that!

The Mountain Cat said...

ah fuck sorry...I mean...shit...damn...I mean ah forget it.

As American as Apple Pie said...

Ok, that almost made me lose my supper!

Sunshine--welcome to the blog! Come by often, we have a blast here.

As American as Apple Pie said...

Doc--yes, but did you see who was in them?

Jay said...

I was shocked that Cook won last night, but happy that the little weirdo didn't.

We had a class song. "Dream On" by Aerosmith.

Doc Seeing pics would be great, I bet it would be loud though, If they are so close..

All I wanna know is who gets which kids if Brangalina (Brad & Angelina) split up?

Karen I hope you go alright with the trial, I bet it's interesting working in that field.

Mt cat please control your use of the words bacon and grease or you will be banned from further interaction... lol...

Leighann maybe we should get Doc to do a poll on how many people like/dislike Heather Mills and to which degree...

Mickey-T I bet they would make for some pretty good reading. Maybe even a good story or book..lol

Everyone.. Hugs....
Lesley

Doc said...

Hey Lesley... I would do a poll like that about Heather Mills but no one woudl vote in her favor... LOL
