No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

My office is on the 14th floor of a 30 story building. I enter the elevator section for floors 1 through 14. So I am the last stop. Every morning and afternoon, it is a mad dash for me to get into an elevator by myself and then quickly press the close door button so I don't have several people follow me in and stop on floors 1 through 13 below me. Well this afternoon after lunch I was in a good mood. I got on the elevator and as the doors slowly began to close, a woman was peering through the doors from the other side to get on. Kindly, I put my arm between the doors to open them to let her on. What I did not notice around the bend of the hallway was the cavalcade of people that also wanted to get on my elevator car! Suddenly the elevator went from just one person, me, to eight people. The elevator was so packed it was a fire hazard!

Oh well at least I am going to heaven now. That is after the elevator stops on every floor first on my way there.

Noooo! You aren't one of those people who believes they should never have to stop on any floor that isn't the one they work on are you?? I am just shattered!

I once worked in the Empire State Building. Luckily for me - on the 3rd floor!

Haven't a clue to what that might be like every day, but I know deep down in my heart I would WANT to just get to the top by myself, but in reality I'd be the stupid friendly guy holding the door and every time it stoped, on someone elses floor, deep down in my heart I'd hear myself whisper......shit!

I only hold the elevator if a really hot chick is needing it. If I see people with kids running towards the elevator I push the close door button as fast as I can.

My good deeds always get cancelled out.

Just last weekend I helped an elderly lady pick out the right size socks for her granddaughter.

Then I ignored some annoying kids trying to get some donations for their.... shit, I don't even know why they were collecting donations because I was ignoring them!

LMAO @ Jay

We have 4 kids.... no one WANTS to get on an elevator with us! That's luck I say. :)

In regards to the big red letters in the right hand column of this blog......

In one of my past lifes, I had to MAKE things to a ten thousandth of an inch as a machinist.

Now there's a slight chance I can actually...be, a ten thousandth.

Where did I leave my micrometer?

Oh ick dude. So how many colds do you get a year. I am a moderate germaphobe so I would not dig this at all, plus I'm not to keen on people in person.

At least you had extra time to hear the elevator music finish
"Ooh! ooh! ooh! Jackie Blue"

WOW! Y'all are up-and-at-em early this morning. My brain is suffering from that ancient Chinese disease dragginass. Sometimes you just need a shot of caffine to get things going!!!!!! My Starbucks should be kicking in in about 10 mins. :)

Doc-Love the Aerosmith reference!

MtCat--When you do manage to get in the 'vator alone, do you jump when you get to your stop? 14 floors would be quite a rush!

I am SO glad that I park my vehicle about five feet from the door I walk in to, and that door goes directly to my office. I would guesstimate that when sitting at my brand spanking new desk, I'm 20 - 30 feel from my car!

I always miss the elevator and I think it is because people know that I am going to hit the wrong floor, run get back on after about 3 stops i finally get off!

Single.... PLEASE check your blog comments......

yes, MC, but is there an actual thirteenth floor button in your elevator? Most, if not all, elevators go from floors one through whatever without having a "thirteen"...how 'bout yours? are you actually working on the thirteenth floor?

DOC CHECK YOUR EMAIL!

Oh and I'm surprised no one commented on that photo. That guy isn't me. He looks like Batman.
I wish I had that much hair.

To me, the funniest part about this story is HOW TRUE IT IS!! I will actually let 1, 2 maybe even 3 elevators go and not get on so I have a chance of getting the least amount of people, maybe even NONE, to ride up with me. After all, there are 1/2 dozen elevators...and I'd much rather be on an express instead of a local!

Point being, you're not alone, TMC...and no good deed goes unpunished. lol! = )

PS - Doc, where's that final tally? I demand a re-count!! ; )

I wonder if I was channeling this post in my dream last night which oddly involved an elevator and me working again in a high rise....we don't have high rises in my area and I can't work, so it was an odd dream.
I'm a close the doors quick gal but it is because I don't like elevators, and more people make me feel too claustrophobic.
