I don't want the funk.

I don't want it.

My son was sick all weekend and then yesterday my wife came home from work with it. It's the funk. The fever and stomach virus that makes your life completely miserable for 24 hours or so.

I'm doing everything I can to not get this. I am Washing my hands extra and I even slept downstairs on the couch last night.

I don't want it. I can't get sick. I have stuff to do. Work yes, but more importantly I am supposed to go to Raleigh tomorrow for the Florida State - NC State football game. I can't miss that.

Plus my in-laws are coming into town on Friday and we are going hang out all weekend and do Halloween type stuff and maybe go to the Renaissance Festival. Too much fun stuff to do and I don't want it.

As I sit here though my stomach is feeling kind of odd... AHHHHHRRGGHHH!

Do you get the feeling I don't want it?

So yesterday I went viral...

So yesterday to my surprise a picture of me ended up on a blog that gets over a million hits a day. It's a website that I go to often and I borrow pictures from it all the time so I can use them here. The website is called theCHIVE.

So how did my picture come to end up on this site? Well it's an interesting story that in some way ties me to Brett Favre. (yes that Brett Favre) I will tell you the story of course but first here is the picture that showed up on the website: (link to it here)

So who is that and why am I in this picture? That picture was taken at the ACC Championship game in Jacksonville Florida back in 2005. (picture taken by my buddy Absolutgator BTW) In the picture are me, my buddy Mike Fudge, and Jenn Sterger. Why is that name familiar to you? Well Jenn happens to be the person currently in the news because allegedly she received inappropriate voice mails and texts from Brett Favre.

We took this picture as a joke because friends of ours made fun of Mike earlier that year for another picture taken earlier in the football season where Mike wasn't wearing this belt.

The picture at the top clearly shows that Mike is making up for it by wearing his belt.

Last week the authors at theCHIVE were looking for new and unseen pictures of Jenn Sterger for their website (since she is suddenly more famous recently) so I sent them some that I have. The picture at the top was only meant to show that I had actually met her and that the pictures were legitimate. It wasn't supposed to be included in their gallery. Imagine my surprise when I pull up the site yesterday and it was the lead photo. They also weren't supposed to post another picture of one of my friends. Whoops!

Oh well it was fun and now I can officially say that I have gone viral. I may not be famous but I can guarantee one thing. I NEVER sent Jenn Sterger any voice mails or text messages!

A few updates...

-Last week was a really brutal week at work. In addition to just coming back from vacation I was asked to take on a whole lot of additional work. Back to the days where I had an assistant kind of work. Not sure what I'm going to do but I certainly don't really have any blog/twitter time anymore. Last week was so bad I came home from work Friday very close to a full blown anxiety attack. Thank goodness for the weekend. Hopefully this week will be better but that is yet to be seen. (and hopefully I get a chance to get caught up on reading your blogs)

-Our new roof is going on the house today. This makes me very happy. Insurance took care of the entire replacement cost including the garage that was not effected (so that the shingles will match) Yay, One less thing we need to take care of before selling this house! Now if we could just get someone to take care of paying to replace the carpet.

-If you are a member of the blog and twitter Fantasy football league please make sure that you are ready for the draft. This time next Monday I will be turning on the draft so there will be plenty of time to make trades after the draft is over.

-We found out this past week that Lil Doc will be starting soccer this coming Saturday. Nothing could make me happier. He is excited too. I don't think this 3 year old soccer is going to much resemble the World Cup but it's organized team soccer where I think he will benefit not only from the running around (and getting tired out) but also taking direction and learning rules from someone other that my wife and I. Several of his friends are on the same team so all the parents are going to hang out and watch. And it's safe to assume a few pictures will be taken.

-Summer reading quest update. I am halfway through year six in my summer quest to re-read the Harry Potter series. I am still really enjoying it. Great summer reads. I would be finished except that I took a break and read the new Daniel Silva book while on vacation last week. (The Rembrandt Affair by Silva was great and I highly recommend it as well) Should finish up the Potter Series in about 5- 7 days. Then want to try books recommended to me by The Mt. Cat by Dennis Lehane.

-Is anyone else left a little bit angry that accused Craigslist killer Philip Markoff committed suicide this weekend? This is a person who deserved to have to answer for what he was accused of doing (and apparently did) in a court of law. Suicide is the chicken way out.

So Uninspired These Days

Judging from a lot of what I have read recently it seems there is a huge case of un-inspiration going on around here. There are a lot of hiatus, on break, or just plain packed up and shut down blogs that I have seen and I am not sure if this disease is contagious or not.

If it is then I seem to have caught it. Where are the fresh ideas? Why is nothing as funny as usual? Why is the World Cup no where near as blog worthy as The Olympics were? Is it just a summertime lull or has this blogging thing past it's prime? Why can't football season hurry up and get here?

I have no answers only questions.

X-Rated Models?

Many times people have said that models and some actresses are walking skeletons. Well, Eizo (a Japaneses manufacture of computer displays) and Butter (a German Advertising) agency has brought skeletal modeling (link: http://cosmiclog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2010/06/22/4545973-x-ray-pinups-stripped-to-the-bone) to life. Is this their way to move girly calendar from the garage into the medical office?
I personally found this to be quite fascinating. Maybe an interest in x-rays started when we stood in line a the local hospital to have our Halloween candy x-rayed. I wasn’t worried, but got to keep the x-ray. I think they did find something in the kid standing in front of me. They said they went to a questionable house.

In the world of Homeland Security and airport safety there is a lot of controversy with the new x-ray machines because someone might see your privates. Makes me wonder if this was done to tell Americans we are crazy, just use the airport machines.

Are these more intriguing to you than the Playboy pictoricals where everything is out there? Phil Plait (link: http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2010/06/21/x-rayted-pinup/) questioned if these were racy, because there is a hint of skin like with lingerie modeling.
Maybe the best thing to come out of these images is for everyone to realize the stress feet take when wearing stillettos.

What's in a Meme...

I have to come clean and say that once again I have been wrong about something. For years I have touted and been proud of the fact that this blog YJKOTB is "Meme Free." What I was referring to are these posts that involve a series of "get to know you" type questions (examples of such posts here, here, and here) which you answer and then invite, challenge, or "tag" others to also answer the same questions. You all know what I'm talking about right?

Well apparently I'm wrong. Well partially wrong anyway. My friend Dana pointed out to me the other day that My motivational poster about that whole Twilight thing was a Meme. I just thought it was hilarious but anyway it got me to thinking and so I did some research. As it turns out a meme (pronounced like Cream which I didn't know either) is actually "an idea or value or pattern of behavior that is passed from one person to another by non-genetic means" Hmmm OK. Well that could be anything and so since I generally found the term "Meme" dealing with internet I checked further.

I have come to the conclusion that what I have been referring to as Memes are actually considered "Internet Memes" These are sort of concepts or catchphrases or that spread virally from person to person via the Internet. More simply put Internet meme's are inside jokes on the internet that only special "in the know people" know about. The best example I can think of for this is "Rick Rolling."

Who knew right? Well most of you probably did but I sure didn't and as a matter of fact my little catchphrase of being "Meme Free since 2007" Is not only wrong but goes completely against what YJKOBT is really all about... I would like nothing more than this blog to be the "inside joke" or the cool kids table of the internet. I actually wish this blog WAS one big Meme!

I still can't stand those question and answer tagging things so those won't be posted here... and I need to think up a new catchphrase too. Come clean guys, who else thought that Memes were just those question and answer things? I can't be the only one on the outside of that inside joke or can I?

The Gift of Grippo's!!

About a week ago during a conversation on Twitter somehow the subject of potato chips came up. I'm not really even sure how it did but a couple of my friends from the midwest Matt-Man and Mrs. D suggested that I need to trip Grippo's hot BBQ chips. Being a local midwest thing I had no access to them so Matt-Man (and Schmoop) sent me a delivery which I received yesterday. Let me tell you something, these these chips are good... damn good. Maybe GREAT even however they are not for the pansy weak of tastebud though. These things have some kick to them:

The package has landed
Oooh a Twin Pack!
Gratuitous Cute Kid Picture

Yum these things are good
What are these Daddy? Those are heavenly goodness from the Matt-Man!
One handful is not enough

My son likes them but thinks they are "Too Spicy"

He is still stuffing his face though....

Yum... Grippo's!!

Daddy gives them a BBQ-ey Two thumbs up!

I highly suggest if you haven't tried Grippo's you need to !
Thanks again Matt-Man!

My Weekend Project - The Train Table

So this past weekend I had little project. My in-laws gave my son a train table for Christmas that we were just able to transport home last week after the wedding. So on Saturday (while he was taking a nap) I put it together. It is pretty awesome. The pictures below don't even really do it justice. I mean it's just a simple low to the ground table with a landscape scene printed on it but to my son it's magical. We set up the tracks and the accessories and he runs the trains around it. Well actually he has so many trains that he hooks them all together that it makes it hard to go around the corners. He uses his imagination and has the trains talk to each other and do little jobs. He crashes them in spectacular fashion and hollers out, "Cinders and Ashes!" just like they do on the show Thomas the Tank Engine. It's great and you know what the best part is? He isn't sitting there staring at the TV or a video game. This is active and mind engaging play!

What do you think? I'm actually pretty proud of my handiwork.
