Thursday Random Thoughts 11/18/10

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-Don't you just hate when someone says, "Well I'm just doing my job?" I hear that all the time around here and I think it's a cop out.

-Mmmmm Diet Dr. Pepper DOES taste more like regular Dr. Pepper. In fact I think it tastes even better than regular Dr. Pepper.

-Speaking of Dr. Pepper, I can't be the only one out there who thinks that the Cherry Dr. Pepper commercial with KISS and Mini Kiss is completely awesome? Admit it you like that commercial.

-So Prince William is getting married next summer. I remember when I was a kid my Mom getting us up really early in the morning to watch Diana and Charles' wedding. Maybe we will do the same thing for this wedding.

-This Prince William wedding is going to be so huge it's already one of the biggest news stories going. I'm happy for them but I do think that giving his fiance Diana's ring is kind of weird. It's just that considering Diana's marriage broke up and then her death and all.

-Once you hear the "Sniff" in Uncle Kracker's "Follow Me" you can't help but hear it EVERY time.

-I read the other day where Florida Governor Charlie Crist is trying to posthumously pardon Jim Morrison from his lewdness conviction in 1969. THAT is pretty cool. Especially for a Republican.

-So Thanksgiving is next Thursday... I can't wait, in part because I'm gonna do the turkey for the first time in my Turkey Fryer I got last year. It's gonna be GREAT!!

-So defeated SC senate candidate Alvin Greene has new political ambitions. He says he is going to run for President in 2012. Um yeah Alvin, You just keep on believing that one buddy.

- Had a discussion with my wife the other day about which of us was a bigger nerd. Of course I won chiefly because I'm taking a half day off work to see the New Harry Potter movie tomorrow. Yeah I'm pretty proud of it too. HA!

OK that's enough for today... Until next time.

Thursday Random Thoughts 11/11/10

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-First and most importantly today is Veterans Day. Please say thank you to those who have served and protected us and allowed us to live in a free country.

-Since it's a holiday and schools are closed here my wife and son get to come and have lunch with me. I really love when they come and visit my office and most everyone here enjoys seeing my son. Plus he gets to pick where we eat and he loves Jimmy Johns!

- Someone from Lockheed Martin found the blog yesterday searching for information about the mystery missile over Los Angeles. I wonder if they liked my theory. HA HA!

-So far so good with the switch from DirecTV to cable except for one thing. The DVR only holds 25 hours of programming as opposed to 100 hours that our TiVo held. That is kind of disappointing but everything else so far is great.

-Apple Jolly Rancher candies are filled with awesome!

-I heard that Kanye West has taken back his apology to Taylor Swift for jumping up on stage and ruining her acceptance speech. Really Kanye? Are you really sure you want to do this? Taylor kicked your ass last year in the court of public opinion and my bet is she does it again. That is if you are still relevant enough to matter. No offense but you really haven't had a good song since Golddigger.

-So what is it with this new fad where women are wearing these shaggy high heeled boots with skirts and skinny jeans and stuff? I couldn't find an exact picture of what I'm talking about but these are close. I have seen this a lot especially out at the football games I have been to recently. Seems to be a trend for the late teens and 20 something ladies. I'm pretty sure I don't like it.

-I am loving my new smartphone! We were finally able to extend our plan and get smartphones this past weekend and decided to go all out. I got the Android. A 4G Samsung Epic with QWERTY keyboard and it is pretty amazing what all it can do. I am so glad that I didn't go with the Blackberry and it was certainly worth the wait. Only problem is the battery seems to run down very quickly. I know that this phone does a lot of stuff that can suck down battery life but you guys find the same thing is true with your smartphones?

-To continue this weeks "Google" theme I wanted to share this. Yesterday when researching my post I came across this website Bing vs. Google. Check it out sometime. It gives you search results at the same time from both Bing and Google. Kind of cool!

Until next time...

Thursday Random Thoughts 11/4/10

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-My mother in law keeps telling me that I look like I am losing weight. Since My scale doesn't seem to agree with her I wonder what she is up to telling me that?

-Speaking of my in laws. We had a great visit from them last weekend that included a trip to the NC Zoo and other great stuff. They also gave me a new grill for my birthday which is AWESOME!

-I saw this picture to the right last week and thought to myself that the target demographic for drinkers of Olde English 800 sure has changed since the days I was in college.

-Since we are on the subject of drinking here is one for you. My wife's uncle and his new wife are a little bit odd. Here is an example. They recently told the family that apparently drinking wasn't good for them so they have come to a decision. They are going to give up drinking. From now on they are only going to drink wine. WHAT??

-Last week I tailgated (ie. ate food out of the back of a vehicle in a parking lot) three days in a row! Thursday at NC State, Friday at the AL Brown Wonders game, and Saturday at the zoo. Yes folks we tailgated at the zoo! #WIN

-I forgot to tell you all last week that my son got the entire crew of waitstaff at Red Lobster to sing to me for my birthday. He was very upset that I didn't want to be sung to and told the waiter, "NO, you HAVE to sing Happy Birthday to my Daddy" Very sweet, even though I didn't want them too.

-One last thing about my son then I will go. He really got into the trick or treating this year as most 3 and a half year olds will. The cool thing was after his time to be out was over he really also got excited about giving out treats to all the "visitors" that came to our house telling them things like, "Hey weve got candy for you!" and "You are scary, have some candy!" Such a sweet kid.

Until next time...

Thursday Random Thoughts 10/28/10

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-Uh Oh, I read the other day that they are making Halloween themed Peeps. Yuck. As if peeps hadn't already ruined Easter now they want to mess up Halloween too.

-Am I the only one who doesn't like "Select a Size" paper towels? Hey I mean just give me the full paper towel please!

-Speaking of things I'm not a fan of please add the "spork" to that list. Give me either a fork or a spoon but not some strange hybrid of the two that doesn't get the job of either done properly.

-Looking back at Disaster Chick's birthday post to me on Monday and I why wonder why Marilyn needed the words to sing Happy Birthday to Kennedy?

-Beware when anyone says, "Oh it's just a natural part of being a human being. Everyone does it." or something like that because I promise you something gross is coming up next.

-I'm taking a half day at work today and heading up to Raleigh for the Florida State - NC State football game tonight. Should be a fun time and a great game but say a quick prayer for me. NC State fans are not known for being the most hospitable or polite to visiting fans so I hope I am safe... GO NOLES >>>-----;;;------->

-In last week's random thoughts post I made the mistake of bragging that I had started downloading music on Limewire. That didn't last long. The website has been shut down for legal reasons. So ends my brief foray into music downloading. Oh well it was fun the 2 times I did it.

- Ever since I cleaned out my desk drawer I have been doing much better about not hoarding ketchup packets. I don't think there is ever a situation where I will need 100 of them.

-My wife and I decided to get rid of DirecTV and consolidate our TV, home phone, and internet service into the Time Warner "Triple Play" bundle. I think it's going to save us upwards of $145 a month and we really can't ignore that kind of savings. I just hope I don't miss any of my sports channels too much. Anyone else done this? Any problems or issues.

-So far I still feel great and haven't gotten "The Funk." Knock on Wood!

-It's almost time to break out my one Christmas decoration that I use on my desk. It's a reindeer that is made out of the same greenery that they make fake Christmas trees out of. I love this little guy and I only get to put him up for 2 months a year. (the rest of the year that spot is taken by a Jeff Gordon antennae ball) I might have to take a picture for you guys and post it later in Christmas season.

OK that's all I have for this week. You all have a great Thursday and I will catch up with you later.

Thursday Random thoughts 10/21/10

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-So far so good with the MLB playoffs. The two teams I am pulling for The Texas Rangers and the San Francisco Giants are leading in their League Championship series. Now don't get the idea that I am a huge fan of either of these teams, I am just kind of pulling against who they are playing, The Yankees and Phillies. GO RANGERS - GO GIANTS!

-By the way, Did anyone else find it a tad bit ironic the other day when Alex Rodriguez (A-Rod) was at bat and behind him was an advertisement from MLB promoting "Drug Free-Play Healthy" ?

-Am I the only one who is bothered that the movie Jackass 3D just set a record for the largest October movie opening weekend in the history of movies? Our society is in big trouble.

-Speaking of movies. I can't wait for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to open on November 19th. I am seriously considering taking a half day to catch and early showing.

-Since we are talking about Harry Potter I was pleased to read this article the other day saying that my Alma-Mater Lenoir-Rhyne University is hosting the first annual Harry Potterfest next weekend. It includes bands, an author, and even a Quidditch match. How come they didn't do anything cool like this when I was there? All we got was "Pauly Shore on Campus"

-I really need a haircut.

-Somebody asked me the other day if I was a "Daddy Blogger" Now I am not entirely sure what a Daddy Blogger is and even though I am a Daddy and a Blogger I kind of doubt I fall under this particular category.

-I read the other day that they are making a Hangover 2. I sure hope this one is decently funny
and in some way doesn't make a mockery of the original which is a classic. It appears that Mel Gibson will be making a cameo. Oh boy this could get good.

-33 years ago yesterday October 20th 3 members of Lynyrd Skynyrd were killed in a plain crash in Mississippi. Southern rock's version of "The day the music died."

-On Monday I turn the BIG 39. Not really dreading this one but for some reason I am next years birthday. Man I'm getting old.

-One thing that I have been doing recently is downloading some music. Yes I know that I am late to the party on this one, but I have been worried that it was illegal and I could get sued by Ace of Base or somebody for downloading their music and I have no money for lawsuits. So I have gone to Limewire and downloaded 30 songs that I didn't already have and burned them to a CD. I'm not sharing it with anybody so they can't sue me. right?

Until next time...

Thursday Random Thoughts 5/20/10

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-First off I wanted to congratulate Miss Michigan Rima Fakih for winning Miss USA the other week... and wanted a good excuse to put her picture on my blog.

-I have no R's in any of my three names but Each name ends in the letter E.

-I was given a blogging award by one of my newest and most fun Twitter/Blogger friends Monkeyheads_Mom. For some unknown reason she likes what she reads here and says we make her laugh. Even though we have her waaaay fooled I would still suggest you check out her blog Through the Eyes of Lauren which is written from the perspective of her six month old daughter. Very cute!

-People who don't wash their hands after they use the bathroom skeeze me out something way badly. Sorry I don't have any other way of putting it. Might be my worst pet peeve ever. And on a related note I NEVER ever directly touch a bathroom door handle/knob.

-Does anyone else like those Staples "WOW, Now that's a Low Price" commercials? My son sure does. ANY time we need to change his mood and get him laughing just pull up Youtube and he is captivated. He belly laughs so hard that it makes me laugh. Only one problem, if you are going to do this be prepared to watch the commercial over and over numerous times. Trust me, I know it by heart.

-Ke$ha is very VERY annoying.

-I learned last week that it's very difficult to moderate an online debate when all the combatants aren't on Twitter. And that's all I have to say about that.

-Over Mother's Day weekend Mt. Cat got bitten by a dog and I have been trying to get him to blog about it but I guess the rabies have taken over and he hasn't had time. ROTFL!

-Oh and one last thing. I have had to suspend my countdown until the day I can get a blackberry because my wife now seems to want an I-Phone. I guess we will have to see when the time comes.

Until Next time...

Thursday Random Thoughts 4/29/10

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-Yay, Jimmy Buffett is back on tour this year. Under the Big Top Tour 2010 kicked off last Saturday in Tampa. Check it out I bet he is coming to a town near you.

-May is my favorite month of the whole year and there are lots of reasons why. The weather is getting nice and warm. Baseball season is just heating up. The Charlotte NC area has so many things going on including PGA golf tournament, the NASCAR races for two weeks and all kinds of festivals and other things to do. I can't wait for May to get here.

-Last weekend I was at a child's soccer game and couldn't help but notice the names of all the kids. I kid you not on the same team there was a Kayden, Aiden, and Jaden. Also a Jada, a Kenton, and a Colton. Nothing against these names but it seems like all kids are being named things like this these days. Doesn't anyone name their child Bill, Fred, or Tim anymore?

-Why is it that I have heard the song "I don't know why" by Nora Jones about 10 times in the past week? It's a great song and it's older but for some reason it's been on the radio repeatedly recently.

-I was wondering the other day what the song of the summer will be this year? Last summer it was probably the Black Eyed Peas "I've got a feeling" or The Michel Franti and Spearhead song "Say Hey." Two summers ago it was Kid Rock "All Summer Long." I wonder what it will be this year. Probably something I haven't even heard yet.

-At our house we were able to go the entire month of April without using either the heat or the air conditioning. This is really nice and actually quite a feat considering where I live in North Carolina we generally have to turn the air conditioning on by now. Our electric and gas bills will certainly be better this month.

-Ok one last thing. I am going to start posting a weekly Odd sign of the week from a new website I have found. Oddly Specific Signs. So here we go with this weeks actual sign. I hope you enjoy:

Until next week...

Thursday Random Thoughts 4/22/10

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-Reason # 23,496 that I don't ever want to travel to Europe. Volcanos in Iceland. I never want to go some where that I get trapped and can't get home to the USA. *Shivers*

-How about a little Happy Birthday shout out to EvilTwinsWife Today? Happy Birthday and enjoy your day!

-The Carolina Panthers 2010 schedule released the other day and highlights include opening the new NY Giants stadium, (they closed the last one out beating the Giants why not open the new one with a win) A return date with Julius Peppers on Oct 10th, and a December 23rd game at Pittsburgh meaning they will be off on Christmas while other teams are practicing. I can't wait for football season.

-While I am on football and the Panthers the NFL draft starts tonight. The Panthers don't have a first round pick so I am not all that enthused, however there is one thing I am dreading. I will not rest until Tim Tebow has been drafted by some other team. If and when in the next 2-3 days you hear that Tebow was drafted by any team other than the Carolina Panthers please know that I am celebrating somewhere!

-Cyndi Lauper can sing in octaves that ordinary human beings simply cannot. Is she really an alien?

- I just love that AT&T commercial where the guy is playing a TV news anchor and is reporting things like, "according to Twitter the search for cute boots is on...Fabcebook confirms." Makes me laugh but sadly reminds me of my life in some ways.

-Yay, Today is also Earth Day. I love the earth and hope that it stays happy for a really long time.

-I heard on the radio the other day that the country of India has more (way more) cell phones than working toilets. Scary, but not surprising.

-Just found out that a friend of mine is moving to Raleigh, NC from New Jersey next month a and am pretty excited about it. (No, it's not the Mt. Cat)

-Bon Jovi is in concert here in Charlotte tonight. W00T!! But sadly my wife and I are not going...Blah. Poor planning on my part actually. I had no idea that tickets would sell so quickly for this show. They were gone in a matter of hours. Two years ago when they came it wasn't even a sell out. So oh well I guess we will catch them next time.

Until Next week

Thursday Random Thoughts 4/15/10

Stuff I have been thinking about:.

-First of all My Twitter Fail from yesterday has been fixed. (I hope) I don't know if I am missing anything but it seems to work. Maybe now life can get back to normal.

-Last Saturday I was in my brother in laws wedding up on Long Island. It was a great day. The ceremony was moving and the reception and party afterwards were unbelievable. The reception itself was at the Carlyle on the Green clubhouse at the Bethpage State Golf courses. This afforded us to get wedding pictures taken at the "Black" course. Made famous by becoming the first public course to host the US Open in 2002 (Won by Tiger Woods) and also hosted the US Open just last June. The black course has a very famous "warning" sign that we had our pictures taken with. Even though I am no golfer I do like famous places so I figured I would share a picture of myself with the sign. I'm sure you all are very impressed.

-Also on my trip to NY I got to hang out with my buddy the Mt. Cat as he detailed here. I did have a great time and it reminded me how much I miss hanging out with him on a regular basis. BTW Vin, Yes Jackie is "US People" I am glad you are happy buddy.

-For the first time in my life I got a speeding ticket on the trip home from NY. The speed limit was 70 int eh area where I was but they slowed it to 60 for a 3 mile work zone and I didn't slow down. State Trooper was waiting for me and wrote me a $380.00 ticket. Very frustrating. I am not sure what I am going to do just pay it or hire an attorney and fight. I have already gotten 4 letters from attorneys in the mail.

-Happy Tax Day everyone. I hope that everyone has filed already and if the government owes you money they get it back to you soon. We are still waiting for our state refund because apparently the state of NC simply ran out of money. Hmmm I thought the state lottery was supposed to fix that problem?

-Last week while in NY I completed my 100 mile journey of walking to be healthier. I was pretty happy with the results and now that I am finished I am not sure what I am going to do next for a goal but I need to come up with something.

-Is it too early at 2-6 for the NY Mets to throw in the towel on the 2010 season? Yeesh. Get it together or fire Jerry Manuel or Omar Minaya or at least do something.

One more thing. Last but not least I was out of town last week and did not officially award the NCAA trophy. Congratulations are in order to Kimmehkins who was the winner of Jay and Doc's NCAA Tournament pool. It was a fun and hard fought victory so here is your trophy:

Until next Week:

Thursday Random Thoughts 4/1/10

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-If you follow me on Twitter you may know that I am counting down the days (242 still left) until I can switch to a Blackberry. It seems that out carrier Sprint doesn't want more money from us each month so they won't let us upgrade our plan until November just because we upgraded it at the beginning of 2009. doesn't make sense to me and I came very close to paying the cancellation fee and just going ahead and getting the Blackberry plan.

-We are headed to NY tomorrow night for "Spring Break" and my brother in law's wedding a week from Saturday. Somehow Spring Break on the NOFO doesn't quite have the same ring to it as Spring Break in Panama City but we should have a great time. BTW - If you are thinking that I just said back in January that I was in NY for my brother in laws wedding you are correct. This is my other brother in law getting married. I have one more wedding to be in during June then I am retiring from being in weddings.

-I have always been a fan of Jimmie Johnson because he is a good guy and my favorite driver Jeff Gordon is co-owner of his car but even I am getting tired of him winning.

-I actually got a forward e-mail last week from someone (who used to read this blog) that insinuated that if I didn't continue to forward e-mails or believe that dogs go to heaven like people do that I would end up in hell. I don't do either and I'm not too worried.

-Looking forward to the summer coming. One of the things I do during the summer is re-read the Harry Potter books. I love them so and can't wait until my son is old enough to read and understand them.

- Nothing quite like getting a spring muffler burn when I broke out the lawn mower for the first time this spring last Saturday. Ouch!

- Anyone else think the Tampon commercial with the "racially ambiguous attractive girl with white pants" commercial is hilarious?

-In a follow up to a post I did last week I am still sort of in limbo but hopefully after I get back from my vacation I will have more to report. The news is looking more positive than negative though.

-Next week while I am gone you are going to be treated to a great series of Guest blog posts. The AbsolutGator has Monday and says that he will also be doing a poll. Dana will be posting Tuesday and keeps making vague references wondering if I trust turning the blog over to her for a day... I'm trusting and I am sure she won't disappoint. On Wednesday you can read a guest post from Disaster Chick and Thursday Evil Twin's Wife will be writing here... (I'm hoping for a cleavage shot) Friday will be manned by none other that His Cynicalness Jayman. The following Monday while I am travelling I am going to try and get the Mt. Cat to post. Thanks to all the guest bloggers. I am sure they will be better than the crap I normally post here. Also we have to award the trophy for the NCAA tournament pool victor next week so stay tuned!

Thursday Random Thoughts 3/18/10

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-The NCAA tournament starts today! Today and tomorrow are two of my favorite days. Teams playing all the upsets. Watching the brackets and the ups and downs of watching teams you picked win and lose. This year I have the added excitement of the Tournament pool with all my blog and Twitter friends. I will do my best to keep the scores updated in the column to the right on the blog.

-I saw this picture the other day on Momma's Gone Mad Blog listed as the the Ultimate Redneck Mommy and I simply had to post it. If I didn't know that it's probably a for real picture I would think it was a joke. Hilarious. Sorry but I had to share it. You would almost think that someone would have photo shopped Sarah Palin's head on top.

-Had the Corned beef and potatoes for dinner last night to help celebrate St. Patrick's day. (We don't do the cabbage) It was fantastic! Corned beef brisket, spices, and a can of beer poured into the Crock Pot and cooked for 9 hours and it came out very well.

-How do we know for sure that Bluetooth devices don't cause brain cancer?

-This Nationwide Insurance "World's Greatest Spokesperson In the World" is very annoying and starting to get on my last nerve. So much so that if I had Nationwide insurance I think I would cancel it.

-OK lets bring up the Peeps debate. Peeps are one of these things that people either love or hate and I'm in the hate category. I think that Peeps are absolutely the worst, nastiest, teeth grating thing anyone could ever put in their mouth and I do my best to ban them from our house. So what's your opinion of the Peeps?

-For those of you who use a Blog Feed or a Google reader I am sorry about the motivational Poster for May 8th that popped up in it the other day. I schedule those posters ahead of time and while creating that one I forgot to change the date. Guess what? you will get to see it again on May the 8th! HA!

-I know that I brag on my son and sometimes too much but It's my blog and I will brag if I feel like it. Last Saturday he started his second year of swimming lessons. Because he did so well last year they are letting him "skip" a year and go into the class with the older kids. He is certainly the youngest and smallest in the class but he held his own and we were very proud of him. Even when he fell in the water when he wasn't paying attention and the Lifeguard had to grab him.

Until next time... enjoy the NCAA tourney games! I can't wait until lunch when I will grab a Jimmy Johns #9 and check out the games from work on the computer.

Thursday Random Thoughts 3/11/2010

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-OK I am going to just put this out there. I watched a new show for the first time the other night and was struck like lightning out of the blue. OMG My oldest running blog crush Aunt Becky from MommyWantsVodka looks exactly just diddly damn like Rachel from the show Glee. See for yourself:

Now I have been stalking Becky for years on the interwebz and have secretly been plotting the demise of her husband "The Daver" so that I can become Big Daddy Vodka, but am pretty sure I never noticed that Aunt Becky had a twin sister. I mean they are either twins or Aunt Becky has been keeping hidden singing talents from me (and the rest of the blogosphere) for years. I just thought she was clever, snarky, and a deceptively brilliant tease with the sense of humor to make both 13 year old boys and 30 something mothers pee their knickers. So what is it Auntie B? Is your alter ego this argyle sweater wearing angel voiced hottie from Glee or is it just your twin sister?

-The second phone line that I rarely use here at work appears to have been taken over by some sort of Spanish Language party line. (complete with a mariachi band) I really need to check that voicemail more often. Seriously I wish I could play these messages for you all.

-I'm not exactly sure what Nutella is... But I am pretty sure I don't want to find out!

-The NCAA tournament starts one week from today and the Brackets will be out this Sunday around 7 pm. I love March Madness, the excitement, teh upsets, and the stories about kids and teams you have never heard of beating the big schools. This year will be extra fun because about 20 or so of you all (fellow bloggers and Tweeters) are joined up to compete in the pool that Jay and I are running. If you haven't signed up yet you don't want to miss it... If you haven't gotten an invite yet please email me. There will be some sort of prize for the winner to post on their blog but we haven't decided just yet what it will be.

-I think that my current favorite Rock (Non Jimmy Buffett) Song of all time is In the City by The Eagles. Awesomeness!

-Save your money and only buy Crayola Crayons. All the rest suck. don't make the mistake I did and make your kid sad. Fork over the extra 50 cents for the real deal.

-Here is a cool one for you. My other brother in law is getting married next month up in New York. We were talking to them this weekend and he said that the lead singer of band they got to play at their wedding probably won't be able to play at their wedding because he is on American Idol. Sure enough Michael Lynche (Big Mike) from the show is the normal singer of the band. That would have been pretty cool to hear him sing live but I am sure he has better things to do.

-Speaking of American Idol the singers I think should go home this week are Tim Urban, Aaron Kelly, Paige Miles, and Lacey Brown... but I think these also should have gone home last week and they are still there so we shall see.

Until next week...

Thursday Random Thoughts 2/25/10

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-Have you ever seen a Chick-Fil-A drive thru that isn't jammed around lunchtime? Heck no you haven't because that place is mobbed. I bet that franchise makes a mint.

-I think that I may be having a bad hair life.

-I heard the Lady Antebellum song "Need you Now" the other day and it made me start thinking. One of the lines in the song says that she would rather hurt than feel nothing at all. Interesting question. Would you rather feel hurt rather than nothing at all? I'm not sure I would.

-The makers of disposable razor blades that charge $8000 for a refill cartridge ought to be ashamed of themselves. Yes I am talking about you Gillette!

-I'm thinking that if I didn't have a child in a car seat that I need to get in and out of my car from time to time I would buy a Mini-Cooper. Great on gas and fun to drive. Something to think about as I am going to be getting a new car in the next year or so.

-I work in the insurance industry and from time to time I hear about odd and interesting things. It seems that recently a certain pseudo-celebrity product endorser was recently in an accident where he was a passenger in a car that was hit and he was slightly injured. I probably can't tell you who it was but I guarantee that you would know exactly who I was talking about.

-Remember back a few weeks ago when I was almost run over coming out of Subway by a UM fan? Well I had a Deja-vu sort of. Monday I went for a $5 footlong and as I am exiting the Subway there is a car coming at me with a Florida Gator license plate. I refused to leave the sidewalk until that car was way out of the way... I know how crazy those Gators are!

-BTW this note is to Paige of Starting all Over Again. I am not ignoring your blog... For some strange reason my work computer eats any comments I try and make. I bet I tried 4-5 times the other day to comment on your post about the house inspection.

- I had a customer in my follow up list the other day whose last name was 'Faile' How bad is it that the first thing I thought about was that would be a cool name to have on your Twitter account?

-My wife sure does make good chocolate chip cookies!

-I got a spam e-mail the other day that said it was sent from "El Bano de Espinoza" and I had to laugh. Now I don't know a whole lot of Spanish but I do know that I guess I just got an e-mail from the toilet of Espinoza. I think the spammer meant to send it from the Banco de Espinoza. LOL!

-As the Olympics are starting to wind to a close I have gotten a bunch of web traffic because of posts and rants about the lack of success of the US curling team. The best however is someone who found YJKOBT by a google search of the terms "John Shuster Cage Match"

-My prediction for the 4 people going home tonight on American Idol should be Lacey Brown, Tim Urban, Jermaine Sellers, and Haeley Vaughn. Now who really goes home who knows. After week one the Best female singer is Katie Stevens and best male is Casey James.

Until next week...

Thursday Random Thoughts 2/18/2010

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-Anyone who watched the Daytona 500 on Sunday has got to agree with me that the pothole that shut down the race for hours at a time has GOT to be the most expensive pothole in the history of the world.

-While we are on NASCAR I have officially had enough of Danica-Mania. OK so she is a good looking woman who can also drive well and she may end up being really good some day. However she is a rookie who admittedly has a little idea of what she is doing in a stock car. Media, please give it a rest. If she looked like Dan Patrick instead you all wouldn't care as much. Seems almost sexist to me.

-I am sure glad that I am never going to be a guest on "The View." Those ladies are ruthless.

-OK, so I have to know and take your opinion into account. Who do you think was hotter, Jeannie from I dream of Jeannie or Samantha from Bewitched?

- I have decided to give up facebook for Lent. I couldn't be as hard core as Matt-Man or Jay in their sacrifices, but Facebook I think is a really good compromise. (I bet a few of you are wishing that I had given up blogging for Lent)

-I am thinking that if I am Taylor Swift's manager and I want her career to keep heading on it's way up that I have her disappear for about 18 months and come back as a more mature singer with a new album, drop the whole teeny bopper shtick and come back as more of a woman and less like a girl. Not Lady Gaga type but you all know what I mean. I mean she's like 19 or 20. She can't sing about being in high school forever.

-I am sure that the blue lines in the snow at the Olympics on the skiing and snowboarding venues are there for a safety reason, but damn are they annoying.

-I am pretty sure that Shaun White's nickname "The Flying Tomato" is the coolest nickname ever. Or at least since "Doc" Gooden.

-After watching the team short rack speedskaing last night I am now convinced more than ever that combined with the cross country snowboarding there is an audience for these winter sports on TV. Seriously if people will watch Flava Flav they will watch short track speedskaing and snowboarding. All they need to do is show these peoples personalities.

Until next week.

(edited to add new picture of Samantha on request from Mrs. D - Even though this wasn't quite how she looked on the show)

Thursday Random Thoughts 2/11/2010

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-What are you thinking trying to be a gangsta John Mayer? Using the N-Word and saying that your little Johnnie is a racist isn't going to win you any fans there buddy. You deserve whatever bad press and backlash that you get. Oh and one more thing we all already knew that Jessica was a tigress in bed. We didn't need your bragging to prove it.

-So just to update, that urinal that I mentioned in last Thursday's Random thoughts as being broken was mysteriously fixed earlier this week. Maybe our maintenance guy reads YJKOBT.

-Last week I was literally almost run over buy a guy in a truck with a UM license plate on the front of it. I was leaving Subway with my five dollar footlong and he was coming through the parking lot. He was talking on his cell and I stopped at the curb to let him pass. He clearly motioned with his hand for me to go and so I did. As soon as I step off the curb he speeds up and crosses right in front of me. Good grief you A-Hole! I guess the lesson here is that even in North Carolina fans of "Da-U" are idiots.

-Does anyone else think that it's no coincidence that February, the shortest month of the year is also wellness month?

-What exactly is the difference between "organic" and "all natural" ?

-Talk about a big letdown. After the Indianapolis Colts lost in the Super Bowl this past Sunday they flew home and were greeted at the airport by a grand total of 11 fans. That's right 11. There were probably more TSA workers there than that. Colts fans way to show up and support your team. In one other little bit of irony it turns out that the Reebok factory that is responsible for making all the newly printed New Orleans Saints Super Bowl champion T-shirts is located where? You guessed it. Right outside of Indianapolis.

-Today is one of those really great days every year. The Thursday before the Daytona 500 is when the twin Duel races are. I have TiVo set to record the races since I am at work so in the afternoon I turn off the radio and try and stay off the computer so I won't accidentally find out how my drivers finished. This year with the advent of Twitter on my phone it will present an even bigger challenge. I think I am going to have to turn off my phone at 2.

-I really don't like the use of the term "shuttered" Even though it may be correct English it just doesn't sound right to me. Last week President Obama was talking about how many businesses were shuttered last year and it just bothered me. New pet peeve.

-Here is one more nugget for you all... We had someone fired this past week for accidentally hitting "Reply all" to a corporate message that went out and her response was profane... Be careful out there with the e-mail folks...

Until Next week...

Thursday Random Thoughts 2/4/10

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-I never realized just how good Taco Bell's Cinnamon Twists were until last week... YUM!

-I wonder if anyone who actually lives and works on a farm uses or plays Farmville on Facebook? Somehow I doubt it. (disclaimer - I don't do this and please don't send me any requests asking me to watch your chickens.)

-The snow was fun for like a day and a half. After that it became ice and a pain in the ass.

- Is anybody else already tired of the Kings of Leon?

- I finally saw The Hangover this week and you guys were all right. It was hilarious and certainly one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long long time. Suckaaaaaas!

-Happy 50th Birthday to Harris Teeter. The grocery store where the stars of the universe aligned and the fate of the gods happened to put The Mt. Cat and I there at the exact same time the day we met for the first time... Ahhh Memories!

-I have never seen the show Hoarders but I have heard enough of you talk about it to get the gist. I have a funny feeling that I have a bit of Hoarder in me. I hoard fast food condiments. I have more packs of ketchup, Taco Bell Mild Sauce, ranch, honey mustard, mayo, Arby and Horsey sauce and who knows what else in my desk drawer than you can imagine. It's to the point that I literally can't put anything else in there. I almost wish I had my camera to take a picture for you guys.

- This week also marks the 50th anniversary of Bubble Wrap. Am I the only one who really doesn't have the desire to pop this stuff?

- So when does the urinal at my work the has a sign saying "Temporarily out of Order - Service call has been Made" since about Thanksgiving officially become permanently out of order?

-I think that the only item of clothing more personal than shoes is underwear. Being as such this is why I own my own pair of bowling shoes. I don't use them very often but at least I have them. Can you imagine a business where you go up and rent underwear to use for a few hours like you do with bowling shoes? Yuck!

- Looks like most of the readers here at YJKOBT want the Saints to win the Super Bowl and I agree with them. My head tells me otherwise though. My prediction for this weekends Super Bowl Final Score Indianapolis 31 - New Orleans 24.

Until Next week....

Thursday Random Thoughts 1/28/10

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-Anybody remember Charo? She hasn't changed a bit in 30 years since she was on the Love Boat....Cuchie Cuchie!

-I love the Urban Dictionary website. I wish that it wasn't blocked at my work... Bunch of good stuff there.

-Last week we had a visitor whose IP address was from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Who knew there was such a thing? What do they teach there leg breaking and extortion? (I keeed I keeed!) But seriously I have to think that NJIT is the poor step brother of MIT. Maybe they will film an episode of Jersey Shore there next season.

- Sign in the break room where I work. "I want to be very clear about this! On Friday January 30th all refrigerators will be cleaned out and any leftovers thrown away!" So much for being "Very Clear" considering this Friday is the 29th... so exactly what day is my week old egg roll gonna get tossed again?

-What is so "fun" about an inch long Snickers bar?

-The Winter Olympics are coming up and I enjoy them. Not quite as much as the summer games, I can't watch the ice skating or ice dancing or stuff like that, but I do like some of the skiing and bobsledding and stuff. NBC always seems to find the heart wrenching and touching stories to tell about the athletes. I bet that NBC is still looking for the sequel to the Tonya Harding - Nancy Kerrigan thing. Speaking of which can you believe that Tonya had the nerve to have her PR person (how does she even have a PR person?) issue a note of sympathy on the passing of Nancy's father. That Tonya Harding still has her trademark lack of tact, that's for sure.

-I really like the song, "I just haven't met you yet" by Michael Buble. Is Buble the reincarnation of Frank Sinatra just minus Rat Pack?

- They are calling for snow in my area this weekend Friday into Saturday. One of the people on the radio insists that the local grocery store chains are in cahoots with the dairy farmers and bread makers and they are blackmailing the meteorologists just so they can sell out the shelves of milk and bread. Ahhh the joys of snow in North Carolina.

- The Absolutgator e-mailed me yesterday saying that he wants to guest post a blog. I told him that he could post tomorrow morning. I wonder what he has in that head of his? Who knows... I just hope that he doesn't kill off the readership here! Check back tomorrow and see what he comes up with.

Thursday Random Thoughts 1/21/2010

Stuff I have been thinking about:

- So apparently with Titanic and now Avatar James Cameron is the King of the World. Speaking of which I have absolutely no interest in seeing Avatar whatsoever. I think my interest in Sci Fi ended with Star Wars.

- I'm not usually a snooze button hitter but the difference between 5:08 am and 5:18 am made all the difference on Tuesday morning.

- I am all about shooting the messenger.

- I am telling you this It's not a good thing when you get an email and the subject line is "Mr. Douchebag is now following you on Twitter."

-I read the other day that Tim Tebow and his mother are filming a commercial to run during the Super Bowl that is sponsored by a religious organization. It's an anti abortion commercial and apparently tells the story that Tim was an at risk pregnancy for his mother and the doctors advised her to terminate the pregnancy. Obviously she didn't and see what a life was saved. Not trying to start an abortion debate here at this time and not a big fan of Tebow but I bet this will be a pretty pointed commercial. Something to think about.

- This past month I shattered the old text messaging record of about 10,000. New record is 18,600!

-Last night I went to the Charlotte Bobcats game and not only did they win but they blew out the Miami Heat by 40 points. This team is really good. They are 9-1 in their last 10 and are now in 5th place in the East. Watch out NBA the Bobcats are going to be a tough out in the playoffs!

- So Jersey Shore is the newest trashy reality show flavor of the month. I have never seen the show but I am listening to a few of the participants on the radio right now and Oh MY we are in trouble if these kids are our future. As someone who spent summers during my childhood growing up at the Jersey Shore I am appalled at these idiots. I am sure the city officials of places like Wildwood, Ocean City and Seaside Heights must be so proud. I bet this show is even worse than Rock of Love or Flava Flav's show.

- You know a movie that I haven't seen in a long time that I need to see again? Johnny Dangerously. What a great hilarious movie!

- Is the opposite of being on the "up and up" being on the "down low"?

- What exactly is my son's fascination with toilet paper? He is potty training now and is so distracted by the TP that he forgets to go to the potty. I guess it's the rolly aspect of it. Anyway have any other parents found their child to be fascinated by the TP? Is it just a boy thing?

Until next week...

-Doc

Oh BTW - Vince (The Mt. Cat) has a post going up tomorrow about the strange and debatable surroundings of his birth.

Thursday Random Thoughts 1/14/2010

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-OK here it is, The picture of me in my mother in law's Snuggie. I look and felt like some cult member or something. My wife actually liked it and says she wants one for her birthday next week. Should I actually get her one?

-So I came into work this morning and found the Mexican leftovers from yesterdays lunch here waiting for me on my desk that I forgot to take home yesterday... Yuck!

-Stat Counter info of the week. Had someone visit the blog from someplace called Romeoville Illinois last week. Sounds like a cool enough name for a town. Oh and I am pretty sure that the people I wanted to read my rant about the radio show getting cancelled at least read the post.

-We had a great trip to NY for my Brother in laws wedding this past weekend. The wedding was great but it was also great that my son got to play in the snow. He got to make his very first snowman and really enjoyed it. Maybe this weekend I will post some pictures or video.

-Why do women need so many shoes?

-I generally try and ignore Pat Robertson and his comments yesterday are no exception to this policy I have. Just go away Pat... please.

-So I have found something more awesome than Cheetos. Target Market Pantry version of Cheetos! All the awesome taste but with a generic price!

-Saw a billboard recently for Belmont Abbey College a Catholic college near where I live that is run by Benedictine Monks. The billboard simply said "Got Monks" and I thought it was interesting so I googled it. Turns out http://www.gotmonks.com/ is their website! Hilarious! They sell Got Monks T-shirts and hats and everything. I love it when religious organizations have a sense of humor and don't take themselves to seriously.

-So yesterday I got a credit card statement in the mail from a credit card company that I don't (or didn't think) that I have a credit card with. It turns out that I do apparently have an account from 2002 with them. I never had the card and it's never been used. Wheew, I was worried about identity theft and other stuff for a bit. Now I am just not sure what to do. Should I cancel it?

-American Idol update: After the first 2 shows of Season 9 here are a few thoughts: The show is still sticking to it's formula with the bad auditions and production done to be funny interspersed with really good singers. The "pants on the floor" bit was really good and I bet we see that guy in the season finale. From the people shown so far I have 3 that sound like they have a shot to make it in Hollywood. Ashley Rodriguez, Luke Shaffer, and Mallorie Haley. Haley was so good I think she may have been a ringer planted there. The tough luck stories are being really played up this season as always and Simon seems to be a little less edgy. My thought is that this season a female will probably win. The last two winners were male and 3 of the last 4. More auditions coming up next week and once we get to Hollywood rounds the real fun begins.

Thursday Random thoughts 12/17/2009

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-Yesterday at lunch I decided to have a treat instead of water and got an egg nog milkshake from Jack in the Box and let me tell you folks this thing was flat out yummy! I know that people fall into love or hate on the whole egg nog thing but oh my gosh you have to try one of these. It's great, very thick though. You will have to let it melt a little bit before trying to drink it through the straw. Probably not the most healthy thing you will ever have though.

- Am I the only one who doesn't like to go to CNN.com anymore now that they have changed their format?

- I will bet you that I have gotten an e-mail from Jockey.com every day since Thanksgiving promoting some sort of sale or something. Now I have never bought anything from this website and probably never will but after investigating a little further they have an account and password in my name and typical password that I use for other things like amazon or Ebay. Like I said I have NEVER bought underwear over the Internet and I wonder how I got an account at Jockey.com ?

-Here is a travesty for you. ABBA was just elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. That in itself isn't the travesty. Now we can debate whether or not ABBA is really rock and roll or if they deserve to be in the hall of fame but there should be no debate about this. KISS was once again rejected for election to the hall and that is a travesty! Say what you want but I will bet you Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons are pissed that the hall "took a chance" on ABBA and left KISS unable to "rock and roll all night and party everyday".

-Hey parents, Any hints on keeping a two and a half year old from playing with the ornaments on the tree?

-Interesting Stat counter search note of the week. Someone from Atlanta Georgia routinely checks our blog monthly searching for Jennifer Wilbanks from the same IP address. Remember her?

- Interesting search note # 2. (and this is not a joke) Someone from Wasilla, Alaska General Communication found our blog by searching for Sarah Palin. Seriously. Nahhhh It couldn't be her. She won't be caught dead in Alaska anymore now that she has gotten her ticket out.

-Do you all remember that disaster that was supposed to happen to computers on Y2K? Well of course it never really materialized. Well we are about to pass another milestone in a few weeks to 2010. I wonder if the computers are ready for it or if just maybe they have been dormant since they failed in their attack on Y2K and they are going to rise up and get us on Y2K + 10?
