Thursday Random Thoughts 4/24

-Stuff I have been thinking about:

-I saw a clip this past weekend that was hilarious. Bill Mahr said something like this: Now I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist but does anyone find it odd that President Bush is an oilman and during his presidency the price of oil has tripled? Now I am not saying anything but if Colonel Sanders was President and the price of chicken had tripled people would think something was up.

-No way that Carly Smithson should be gone from American Idol after the results last night. She is way better that most of the singers left on there and I am about at the point where someone needs to do a Nancy on David Archuletta. I can't stand that little no talent overacting fake-ass kid. Mr "Stage Dad" Archuletta if you read this and take umbrage, please feel free to e-mail me. I have some words of wisdom for you too.

-It wouldn't surprise me one bit if Amy Winehouse doesn't live to see 2009 after the recent pictures I saw of her... Let that be a little Public Service Announcement for y'all... Heroin kills kiddies.

-While I am tossing out PSAs how about this oldie but goodie: Never trust a big butt and a smile.

-I read the other day that this past weekend was the annual "BeatBox" convention called Boxcon08. I bet that would be fun to watch on TV. However I am not sure I would want to be there in person because there sure would be a lot of spit flying around.

-I never EVER thought I would say this but I think that I might like ground turkey better than ground beef in spaghetti sauce.

-In my entire life I had only been to one "Petting Zoo." However in the past year since my son has been born I have already been to two and on Saturday I will be going to another when my in laws are in town. Who knew how having a child would change my life in this particular odd way? I now LOVE petting zoos!

-OK that AT&T "Go Phone" commercial that I wrote about last week with Meatloaf and Tiffany has gone from just being annoying to being the worst ad ever seen on TV. And it's everywhere.

-Don't believe that well worn cliche because I am here to tell you folks, There ARE dumb questions.

-Here is a concert for you on May 3 in Charlotte NC. Here is the lineup: Kid Rock, Reverend Run, and Peter Wolf (J.Geils Band) Now who in the heck thought it would be a good idea to put those three together for a tour?

-FYI... as long as things stay the way they are YJKOBT should get it's 25,000th visitor sometime next Wednesday or Thursday.

-Interesting search note of the week. Someone from the state government of Delaware found our blog by searching "Rejected McCain campaign slogans" That post still gets tons of hits all the time. I think that one is going to end up in the "Hall of Fame"

-You could have had my whole life savings if you had bet me that my buddy MickyT would have northern accent. I guess I figured that he would sound more like he was from Tennessee and not like he was from Boston! Anyway I spoke with him the other day because (how scary is this) Mic and I might actually be related. We share a family name that is not commonly spelled the way ours is and we tried in a vain attempt to see if we were distant cousins or something. We still aren't sure... Small world huh?

Thursday Random Thoughts 4/17

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-I heard on the radio last week that the last dogs to get adopted out of animal shelters are large black dogs. This is primarily due to people psychological reflex of being afraid of them no matter mild their temperament. Hmmmm our dog better start acting right because if we send him to the pound ain't nobody ever gonna adopt him...

-I saw the most disturbing commercial this past weekend. It was an AT&T ad for the "go phone" which featured Meatloaf and this teenager singing back and forth to each other. It was downright scary. Has anyone else seen this commercial? Please back me up on this.

-Hey guys, if you want your wife to think you are a hero and brag to all her friends what a great husband you are I figured out the trick this past past weekend. Here is all you have to do. Find a silent auction where you can outbid her boss for an authentic Coach pocketbook so she gets the bag and also can pick on her boss about it. I promise you from experience it will work. (Plus I saved about $200 over regular price)

-Tomorrow I am going with my work to volunteer at the Second Harvest Foodbank helping to sort and package donated food that goes to food shelters and soup kitchens. It's a great way to volunteer and give something back to the community. I want to thank my company as well for letting my whole department do this on company time and encourage each of you to volunteer your time to help others. If you get a chance you really should volunteer. It's good for you.

-I wonder who the first person was who allowed someone to shoot a laser beam into their eye?

-I can't stand okra... Yuck!

-The other day I actually had someone e-mail me a report saying their kids were watching Yo Gabba Gabba. (and I am not making that up just to work it into a post)

- Next Monday I am taking the day off to spend it with my son... It's Daddy's day off with the boy. YAY I am really looking forward to it !!!

- Did anyone see Hillary do a shot last weekend? She actually did a shot of Crown Royal. Now I like Crown but it's not exactly like it's "shot" material. Come on Hillary... step out there and knock back some Jagermeister or Rumplemintz...or better yet. how about a "cement mixer." LOL, I am sure some of y'all know what I am talking about. The gentlemen pictured to the left just drank a cement mixer.

-If you are in the Charlotte NC area try listening to the Candy and Potter Show from 12-2 pm weekdays on 107.9 The Link. They are a husband and wife team who are really hilarious together. They have these phone scams that they do where they will call people and really mess with them. Funny stuff, Plus the radio station seems to be in the process of a format change and their music has gotten better.

-Interesting search note of the week: Someone from Indonesia (Baja Auto Limited) found our blog by searching the terms "Special Massage Jakarta"

-The guy who buried a Boston Red Sox jersey at the new Yankee Stadium is dumb. They guys who actually jackhammered it out and made a big deal out of it are even dumber.

Thursday Random Thoughts 4/10

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-Is there anyone else out there who doesn't give 2 rips that the "New Kids" are back?

-OK so I don't agree with China's human rights abuses at all. I think they are a deplorable and stifling tyrannical regime however come on folks... Leave the poor people trying to run with the Olympic torch alone. It's not their fault that China is the world's great Satan. Boycott the Olympics if you want but leave the poor runners alone. Those poor folks look scared to death.

-The Masters starts today, which signals to me that today is actually the first day of spring. Is there anyone out there who would be willing to bet me if I had Tiger Woods and you had the rest of the field?

-Like my good pal Mt. Cat I am happy that baseball season is back. It's too bad that my Mets have stunk it up so far... Yeesh.

-Anyone watching Idol Gives Back last night HAS to agree that Fergie was absolutely awesome. That chick can flat out sing... and the no- handed cartwheels were a nice touch too. Oh and Sarah Silverman sucks... That is all.

-Interesting search note of the week: Someone from the Imax corporation searched and read Mt. Cat's post about the Rolling Stones Imax movie Shine a Light... Kinda Cool huh?

-Who knew that anteaters were such interesting creatures?

-I just don't get this whole polygamist thing. I mean I have a hard enough time trying to keep up with the one wife that I have why on earth would I want more. Yeesh! (disclaimer. I have said the exact same thing to her before and she laughs)

-I heard on the radio that the scientists who invented the Internet (No not Al Gore) have created something called "The Grid" which dwarfs the Internet's capabilities. This Grid will download entire feature films in seconds and transmit holographic images. It's planned to be used mainly by the scientific community for research and communication. Uhhhh yeah right. Wait until the gamers get a hold of this thing. It will become commercially used in an instant. There are a boat load of those World of Warcraft players out there.

-This week Charlotte NC has had airplanes "crop dusting" the entire city to spray pesticides and kill cankerworms. Well it seems that my building was in their line of fire because all day Monday and Tuesday there were these little World War II looking planes were buzzing and divebombing us over here. It was kind of cool actually even though some people were scared because they weren't prepared for it. I think that fellow blogger Reggie said it best when he commented to me that "The entire SouthPark area sounded like Pearl Harbor." HA !!

-Reason Number 24967 on my list of reasons not to live in Wisconsin can be found HERE.

-I think it's pretty sad that the kids of today are only going to know Bruce Jenner as Kim Kardashian's step father. (editorial note - I wrote this note to myself on Tuesday before I knew that Mt. Cat had a random thoughts about Kim Kardashian... Odd)

-OK so the other day I was watching Yo Gabba Gabba..... (Just Kidding)

-The Charlotte NC area has been under severe water restrictions due to a drought for the better part of a year now. We have all been under mandatory water restrictions. What is the reward that we get for this? Well the utility commission for Mecklenburg county is losing money due to less water being used so they just decided to raise the water rates. Go figure right. I wonder if they will lower the rates once the drought is over? Doubtful

-I heard that on a recent trip to Africa Paris Hilton actually inquired about purchasing a Cheetah. This is a true story! Unconfirmed reports also surfaced that she asked the game warden were she wanted to purchase said cheetah if it would sit around her house wearing sunglasses and eating Cheetos.

Thursday Random Thoughts 4/3

Stuff that I have been thinking about:

-Other than Mt. Cat does anyone else off the top of their head know what "The politics of Contraband" is ?? (without looking it up)

-There is this restaurant here near where I work called Johnny Burrito that has been giving out free burritos for lunch all week. I am not sure if that is a good thing or if their food is so bad that they have to give it away.

-Speaking of Mexican food, my wife and I are trying to eat healthier and lose a few pounds so this past weekend I made tacos with ground turkey instead of beef. They were not bad at all!

-I found another funny name in my customer follow up list this week that I want to share but the last time that I did that that actual person e-mailed me wondering why I posted their name, so maybe I shouldn't post this new one.

-Odd search note of the week: Someone from Tehran Iran on the "Islamic Republic" government IP site googled us and read Mt. Cat's Al Pacino post on Monday. Hey Vin - you better not get a fatwa started over our blog!

-If any of you go to see the movie Leatherheads this weekend this may interest you. Most of the movie was shot in and around Charlotte, NC including most of the football game scenes. OK so maybe that doesn't interest you... but it does me.

-Thank goodness they finally got around to voting Ramiele off of American Idol. I guess it's Goodbye Malubay.

-On our trip last week as we were driving through rural Alabama my wife spotted a billboard for (no joke) coffin sales. It was quite unique to say the least and she was cracking up. Has anyone else ever seen a billboard advertising coffins before?

-Check this out. I went into a Wal-Mart in Panama City Beach while on vacation and inside was not only a full surf shop complete with an entire station for airbrushing t-shirts but there was also a liquor store. Yes you read correctly there was a liquor store in the Wal-Mart in Panama City Beach. And people wonder why that area is referred to as the "Redneck Riviera"

-If you are ever bored (REALLY bored) sometime check out the show called Yo Gabba Gabba on Noggin TV. This show is a trip. It's kind of hard to explain but they have these creatures who dance around to hip hop type music and teach kids valuable life lessons like keep your hands to yourself, how to eat healthy and brush your teeth, and clean up after yourself. It's hilarious to watch and they even get celebrity guests on there to dance with the creatures. Does anyone else out there know what I am talking about? Now why didn't Mt. Cat and I think that idea up?

-I think that I am going to get a chance to do something really cool next week but I am not positive yet so I don't want to jinx it. Stay tuned though because I will tell you all about it if it happens.

Thursday Random Thoughts 3/20

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-I had a BLT for lunch the other day. Man was it good! I had forgotten just how much I like those.

-Next week while I am on vacation the family and I are going to be driving by "The Peach." You know the water tower that I use for my weekly award? Well I am planning on stopping (weather permitting) and taking a few pictures and maybe change up the award a little bit. I have a few ideas, so stay tuned. (Aren't you just on the edge of your seat now!! - LOL)

-Don't look now (and I know that football season is months off) but my Carolina Panthers have made some interesting moves and things are looking good for 2008!

-I heard on the radio recently that the term 'nerd' was first penned by Dr. Suess. Interesting

-An update on the story from last week where the lady was stuck to the toilet seat after being in a bathroom for two years. The boyfriend has been charged with mistreatment of a dependent adult for letting her sit there for so long and not doing anything. Oh and MickyT if you read the article it answers the big question that you had about the logistics of how she was "stuck."

-Interesting search note of the week. The 3 most visited pages on our blog (other than the front page) by non regular readers who use search engines to find us: #3 Top 10 rejected Campaign slogans, #2 Top 10 rejected Cereal names and the #1 (by a wide margin) The Lion Kissing video. We get multiple searches every day for that silly ass video... LOL!

-My wife makes the most fantastic corned beef and potatoes for St. Patty's day. They were awesome!... We skip the cabbage though.

-I wonder if the value of my college degree just went up now that my alma mater Lenoir-Rhyne College is officially going to become a University? I sure hope so because I wouldn't want to have wasted four years of blood, sweat, and beers, errr tears.

-Oh man I really hope that I get to go fishing when we are in Panama City Beach next week. It's been like six months since I got to go real fishing... but I am not getting my hopes up.

-The NCAA tourney starts today. If I had to bet I would say that North Carolina is the best team out there but they have a pretty tough road to get to the final four. I am not a tar heel fan but I will root for all the ACC teams.

-Nothing in the news freaks me out more than the stories about people who had the wrong surgery done on them when they were under anesthesia... Yikes !!!

-If you have never tried french fries dipped in ranch dressing you really should... they are fantastic. (OK now my mouth is watering)

-You know what I think would be hilarious? If Eliot Spitzer would choose to do commercials now that his political career is pretty much over. Can't you just see him riding up on a motorcycle singing "Viva Viagra" ?

Thursday Random Thoughts 3/13

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-There is no reason that I wasn't in a 14 car pile up this morning other than a few alert drivers and God looking over me. There was apparently a car stopped in the fast lane on the interstate this morning and I skidded to a stop about 6 inches from the bumper of the truck in front of me and the truck behind be barely got stopped... The truck behind him skidded through the median grass. Wheew. I found a new place to pray this morning.

-I heard on the radio that Matthew McConaughey is going to name his son Bud... after his favorite beer. Yeesh I sure hope that is just a rumor.

-Just in case there are any TSA airport screeners reading this blog, I Love you guys, you are the best! (you don't wanna mess with those guys because they can give you a serious bad day)

-Here is a first. Someone (not associated with this blog) who I blogged about in last weeks TRTs contacted me by e-mail and requested that I remove their name from my random thoughts... so I did. I actually think it was pretty cool that they found the blog by google search! and I invited them to read and comment anytime. Oh and someone also found our blog this week by googling "Egg beater Bachelor Party" HA!

-Thanks to everyone who commented on this segment last Thursday... 164 comments in all Wheew, it sure was fun! I hope that you people are bored every Thursday.

-I promise you all that there was a girl sitting in the front row of my church this past Sunday who had Amanda Overmeyer hair. I mean it looked just like it, you know that skunk meets Cruella DeVille look. I ain't lying because I have witnesses. Please Lord do not let that look become a fashion hairstyle.

-So Brittney Spears in addition to dominating this weeks poll is now being given an allowance of $1500 per week to teach her how to spend responsibly. Ummmmm can I have an allowance like that?

-Why the heck does Jimmy Buffett have to come to play Charlotte on a Tuesday night? Come on Brother Jimmy, we deserve a Saturday Night. Of course his answer to me would be "It's Saturday night somewhere"

-Last weekend my wife and I volunteered to work on a house for Habitat for Humanity. It sure showed me that I am not cut out to build houses. Yikes I am not good at house framing. However it was a really good experience and I will do it again. If you get a chance I suggest that you give up a few hours and try it.

-We already have a poster named Leap O' Faith here on the blog... Now I want to find one named Walk O' Shame.

-Here is a heads up for Harry Potter fans. The 7th book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is actually going to be made into two movies because producers don't want to shorten it and leave out any of the story. I think this is a really good idea. While reading it I wondered how they would convey everything in the story. Btw - If you haven't read the books and just seen the movies you are missing A LOT! I did not start out a fan but became one this summer. I read all seven books this past August. For the most part I think they are brilliant.

-Last night on CNN Campbell Brown showed Eliot Spitzer's 2006 Governor campaign TV ad...The slogan? "Bring the Passion back to Albany" Uhhhh You just go ahead and keep on believing that one Eliot... What a nimrod.

-Speaking of evil politicians... Maybe Hillary should run for Governor of New York?

-On American Idol Tuesday did anyone else notice the guy sitting over Randy's shoulder? He looked exactly like Bob "Bulldog" Brisco from the TV show Frasier played by Dan Butler. He was there last night too right near Jim Carrey. Am I imagining things or was that him? Did anyone else notice that?

-Dawn Wells the actress who played Marianne on Gilligan's Island was recently given a short jail term for a marijuana arrest. Sounds to me like maybe her character's name should have been Mary Jane instead.

-Doc

(Oh and thank you to all who volunteered to watch our dog while we are on vacation... We have him taken care of now!)

Thursday Random Thoughts 3/6

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-If any of you all ever see me wearing "Crocs" you have my permission to slap me upside the head.

-Does anyone want to meet Tie-Bo master Billy Blanks? If you do then FYI he will be here in Charlotte this weekend at some Health and Wellness seminar.

-Interesting Google search note of the week: Someone from Rancho Rio New Mexico found our blog this week by searching "honey bunches of bark"

-I heard "Playing with the Queen of Hearts" by Juice Newton on the radio the other day. It has been a long time since I heard that song which I find odd because I often listen to a station that plays songs in constant shuffle mode.

-Do they still make Swatch watches?

-An actual name in my customer follow up list on Tuesday that I found funny: X-X-X-X-X-X-X . just as a little bonus X-X-X-X lives in someplace called X-X-X-X-X-X-X-X.

- I was thinking that Andrew Ridgley and John Oates should start their own group and call it "Wham-O"

-I cooked the spaghetti pie that Bina posted the recipe for this past weekend and it was fantastic! My wife even called me gourmet (without joking). Thanks Bina!

-It's my understanding that that "The Sharper Image" went bankrupt. I will miss that place because they had all the cool gadgets and I used to always look at the catalog when I was growing up. The thing is that the stores are apparently still open but refuse to honor gift cards that were purchased previously. (25 million dollars worth of cards actually) so if you have a Sharper Image gift card apparently you are out of luck.

-Now that it's March I am really looking forward to our Florida vacation the 23rd - 29th. We are going to see some friends in Jacksonville and Panama City Beach. I can't wait! BTW - On a related note... Does anyone want to have a very cute and very sweet black lab who is afraid of being boarded at the vet, stay with them for 5 days at the end of the month? He kind of looks like this lab riding in the cooler.

-Does anyone else snicker whenever they hear the name Chester?

- Ok so I am going to "baby proof" our kitchen. We go out last Saturday and buy these high quality magnetic door locks that require installation. They are pretty heavy duty and so I get looking at the instructions and among the tools that I need to install them is a drill with a 9/32nd bit. Now why on earth do they have to make it be that 1 extra 32nd? 8/32nds would be 1/4 inch which of course I have in my drill bit collection, but nooooooo. Now I have to go out and buy a new drill bit that I will probably never use again just because these silly door locks just have to have that extra 32nd of an inch... Yeesh.

-Don't forget to set your clocks ahead an hour before you go to bed Saturday night.

-Doc

Oh and I saw this and thought of our good pal Jahooni.... BTW - I am Just kidding...

Thursday Random Thoughts 2/28

Stuff I have been thinking about:

-I didn't see any of the Oscar nominated films this year and I don't really care. As a matter of fact the last movie I even saw in the theater was Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

-I saw this headline the other day "Plane carrying 46 Missing in Venezuela" and thought, Is there ever a happy ending to one of the stories? Is a "missing" plane ever "found" OK and in one piece? Sadly I don't remember any.

-Have you made someone else smile today? If not then try to... It's good for you I promise.

-One of the commentators (I don't know her name but she has red hair) on "The View" the other day was talking about the upcoming Presidential election and said, " It's really important that we all get out and vote this time." This time? As opposed to what? The Presidential election in the past that wasn't all that important? Yeesh...

-Speaking of the Presidential Election here is an odd tidbit for you. It is generally thought that only 7 to 10% of the adult population in America is left handed. So you would think that it would be out of the ordinary for both Presidential candidates in the general election to be lefties. We have that distinct possibility because both Barack Obama and John McCain are left handed. That is odd but not the oddest All three of the candidates in 1992 were lefties as well. Bill Clinton, George Bush, and Ross Perot. That almost defies odds unless there is something inherent about politicians and being left handed. Use that little fact there to impress your friends at parties... LOL! (Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford were lefties too)

-Odd Google search note of the week: Someone from Seoul South Korea found our blog by searching for Danny Noriega Superstar... Someone is also delusional.

-I miss Triumph the Comic Insult Dog... That was one funny dog!

-I heard on the radio this morning that the OK symbol we make with our thumb and finger is the symbol for flipping the bird in Brazil... Better remember that on your next trip there.

-I live hundreds of miles of miles from the nearest beach but somehow on Monday a seagull (yeah a dadgum seagull) actually landed on the hood of my car when I was stopped at a stoplight. What the heck?? I shooed him off before he could poop on my car.

-I heard on the radio the other day that there is a scientific theory out there that women actually have the big O when they are giving birth. (I only heard this so don't shoot the messenger) Now I am not a woman and certainly have never given birth but something tells me that there is something a bit flawed with that theory.

Observations from My trip this past weekend as a church youth group chaperon:
-The breakfast buffet at the Embassy Suites is fabulous. They will even make you a made to order omelet if you want one and they carry a $30 filet mignon on their menu but they don't have flavored creamer for the coffee do they Apple??

-The Christian folk group Tangled Blue played at this event I was at. They are really good. They are a married couple who tour around the country in a VW bus with almost 300,000 miles on it. Their message is really positive and the music was great. My favorites were the old testament Advent scripture that they wrote into songs and play with a heavy metal guitar. It's not hokey It's sweet! you can look them up on line if you want to http://www.tangledblue.com/ - But don't confuse them with Bob Dylan's tangled up in blue. (that's what got Hootie in trouble)

-A surefire sign that I am getting old and out of touch is that I have no idea who the heck "Hollister" is. I am not sure if he is an athlete or in a band but this guy sure must be popular though because every third kid at this event had one of his shirts on. Oh well, whatever....

-This tells me that the kids are out of touch because there was a dance at this event and none of them liked one of the greatest rap tunes of all time "Let me clear my throat" by DJ Kool. Shameful.

-Speaking of the dance (which was loosely 80s themed) I have come to the conclusion that they can now "re-mix" anything. Song after song was butchered err re-mixed in one way or another in most cases totally ruining the song. The ultimate out of place remix had to be their rendition of John Denver's "Country Roads" Yes you read that correctly they played a dance remix of John Denver singing his classic "Almost heaven... (woop woop shikky shikky) West Virgina..." It was terrible and I am not kidding. I have witnesses. One reader of this blog was actually with me at the time and called someone on the phone leaving them a message to prove that there was such a horrid thing.

-BTW I am told by that same person that the kids were laughing at me when I was singing my favorite song from 2008 "Clumsy" by Fergie (including the spoken parts) Whatever... they just don't know cool when they see it.

-Hotels have gone Hi-tech on us. This is for real! The clock radio in my hotel room actually had a connection to plug an MP3 player into it. So I guess you can wake up to your I-Pood. Yeesh there was once a time when you had to actually hope they would give you a wake up call on time. If the desk clerk hadn't fallen asleep. Ah those were the days.

-It was a really good weekend and for the most part the kids were very well behaved. I had a great time but was happy to get home to my wife, child and own bed though.

-I came home from my weekend away to find that my son had taught himself a new trick. He really wants to walk and has previously had no desire to crawl. Well I guess all of that changed this weekend because I came home to find him doing this very humorous looking "inchworm" crawl. He scoots along the carpet by arching his back and then pushing of with one foot kind of like an inchworm... It is a scream to watch so I had to get it on video. He is getting really good at it too. He is fast getting across the room. Ahhh the sign of things to come.

Enjoy your "Leap Day" tomorrow everyone !!

Thursday Random Thoughts 2/21

Stuff I have been thinking about:
-Am I the only one who thinks that as a society we need to come up with a preventative way to decrease the glamour given to these school shootings in the media?
-Last weekend my wife was watching a Lifetime movie called Moment of Truth: Broken Pledges about fraternity hazing. Guess who the guest star was in this movie. Barry Bonds, yep it was him. He played the role of the senator who kept looking the other way and not helping with legislation as fraternity pledges kept dying. I actually found it interesting and watched this for about 45 minutes.
-After playing at the Super Bowl halftime show Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Greatest Hits album sold 65,000 copies in a week and Free Fallin' was the 10th most downloaded song of the week. Behold the power of the NFL.
-The racing was pretty good at Daytona even though my guys stunk it up. I am just glad that a Toyota didn't win the 500. They will get their shot sooner or later.
-This past Saturday night my wife and I helped out the youth group at our church with their Valentines dinner. I ended up cooking steaks for about 60 people on this huge grill. That was a lot of steaks! I didn't hear any complaints so I guess I did ok.
-I heard on the radio that Newark, NJ set a record for the most number of consecutive days without a murder. At first glance that sounds like a pretty good record but I think it's actually very scary that Newark has never gone more than 30 days before without a murder.
-Charlotte was blessed with a huge superstar this past weekend. Comedian Ron White was in town doing a show. Too bad I found out too late and the tickets were sold out... My wife loves him and thinks he is the funniest guy ever.
-This weeks fun blog search fact. Someone from the UK actually found our blog this week by searching for "American Idol tattoo husband face" - That is funny right there.
-Speaking of American Idol; does anyone else think that Danny Noriega is this years version of Sanjaya?
-According to everything I read and hear the runaway favorite for American Idol this year is 17 year old David Archuletta. I don't get it. Yes I think he can sing ok but apparently I am missing where he is the second coming of David Cassidy for this generations young teenage girls.
-My picks for who did the best/worst this week on Idol. For the guys I liked Robbie Currico and Jason Castro... Chakizee, Garrett Haley and Luke Menard were fighting it out for the worst. Among the ladies Kady Malloy was by far the best followed by Asia'h Epperson and Alexandrea Lushington (what kind of last name is Lushington?) The worst were Joanne Borgella and Amy Davis. Feel free to discuss and disagree with me if you like.
-Please pray for me. I am going to spend all weekend as a chaperone for a youth event and have to sleep in a hotel room with 5 teenage boys. Please pray for some semblance of sleep for me. I bet I will have a random thought or two to share after this trip.... YIKES!

Thursday Random Thoughts 2/14

Stuff I have been thinking about this past week:

- Happy Valentines Day Everybody!- I was wondering the other day if elementary school kids still give out those Valentine Day cards or if the P.C. police have banned those too?

- Ok, so I have had the stomach flu and then the resperatory flu both within the past 9 days. I think that I have met my "sick quota" for the year.

-Who even knew that Paris and Nikki Hilton had a little brother? Well they do and that apple doesn't fall far from the tree either. This youngster named Barron was arrested the other day for DUI. Driving over twice the legal limit and almost hitting a filling station attendant. And this punk isn't even 20 years old yet. I bet we soon get to hear about everything having to do with this nimrod's life too. Oh joy.

-I heard on the radio that Angelina Jolie's Oscar statue for Best Supporting Actress is missing. She gave it to her mother years ago and once her mother passed away no one has been able to find it. Somone out there has a heck of a piece of memorabelia.

-Not only has Barack Obama won eight in a row in terms of the Democratis primaries and ast weeks poll on this blog but he also won a Grammy on Sunday. No joke... he did. Nothing can stop this guy he is on a roll.

-Why on earth does John Rocker continue to pop up from time to time? This oxygen thief just won't go away. So it's no surprise to me that he wants to inject himself into this steroids debate. (no pun intended)

-On Monday the temperature in International Falls Minnesota was at -40. Thats 40 degrees below zero. No wind chill that was the actual temperature. THAT is cold folks.

-If you haven't heard about this story about a guy attacking and stabbing a psychologist to death in her New York office then please read it... It will scare the heck out of you. Be viligent there is danger out there kiddies. Wow.

-I tried that new Wendy's Fish Sandwich they are advertizing all over the place. (including this blog) You know the one they claim is made from 100% "North Pacific Cod" ? Well I think they are lying because I swear it tastes more like South Atlantic Mahi-Mahi to me.

- I can't stand either Tony Stewart or Kurt Busch however I would have paid good money to watch Tony punch the crap out of Kurt inside the NASCAR officials trailer the other night. It's too bad there is no video of that!

-In my customer follow up list on Tuesday I had an actual customer named "Bute Flosse" - No kidding. I wonder is his/her friends call him/her "Thong" as a nickname?

-I heard yesterday that Gary Coleman (who is now 40) claims that he was a virgin when he got married (to a girl half his age but twice his height) about six months ago.... Yeah Riiiight. Anyone else believeing that? Well if it is true maybe his life was the real basis for the movie 40 year old virgin.

-I had an old manager years ago who claimed that the group "Creed" was the best band ever and would go down with the greats like the Beatles and Zeppelin. How did that work out for him? Come to think of it this was the same guy who claimed that Richie Sambora was the best guitarist dead or alive (no pun intended) because he could make his guitar "talk". I actually laughed out loud at this and tried to explain to him what it was. One time he was even over at my old house for a party and a co-worker and I played him Jimi Hendrix, Joe Satriani, Jimmy Page, Eric Johnson, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and even Peter Frampton (who used a voice box long before Richie Sambora did) as multiple examples of better guitarists. He wouldn't listen. I wonder what ever happened to that guy.

-So how would you like to be one of Roger Clemens' kids? Both of your parents shooting up roids. I bet there was some rage going on in that house. "You didn't do your HOMEWORK????... GRRRAAAHHHHHHH! "

Thursday Random Thoughts (on Friday) 2/8

Stuff I have been thinking about:
-I wonder if kids are still taught in school that Google is actually a number... as in the number 1 followed by 100 zeros?
-I don't have any inside sources in NFL merchandising but I would be willing to bet you that the red "hoodie" that Bill Belechick was wearing during the Super Bowl hasn't been a real big seller this week.
- Yay! NASCAR season starts this weekend with the pre-season Allstar race and Daytona pole qualifying. Now to be truthful this is the real test for the new TV.
-Safe travel and a good trip to my parents who take off today for a week in London. My Dad is going to try and sneak me back a rock from Stonehenge.
-Speaking of travel, I heard on the radio that the fastest growing region of the world for tourism from visitors outside that region is the Middle East. WHAT ?? Oh unless they are counting soldiers as tourists then I guess it makes more sense.
-I was on Amazon.com last week and found this interesting. I looked up Stephen King's "Nightmares and Dreamscapes" and in the section where it lists "others who bought this book also purchased" it listed "Living History" by Hillary Clinton. Interesting.
-I read this article yesterday about the extridition of a suspected Muslim terrorist to the US. What caught my eye was the way he was described as "a one-eyed, hook-handed preacher" Anyone else find that creepy?
-On the pregame show for the Super Bowl they gave a statistic that 5 % of all avacados purchased in America per year will be used for Super Bowl Sunday. I found that pretty cool.
-Speaking of Super Sunday. I was busy doing a bunch of stuff during the game and missed most of the commercials. My understanding is that I didn't miss much.
-Does anyone else think that the "Super Delegates" in the Democratic party are a really REALLY bad idea?
-I heard on the radio the other day that there is a study that found the longer that men spent on their cell phones the lower their sperm count was. I can't stand talking on mine so maybe that's part of the reason we have our son.
-What ever happened to that Riverdance craze?
-Vice President Dick Cheney spoke at a closed session of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce last week. Rumors floated around that the session was closed because direct sunlight might have killed the Prince of darkness.

Thursday Random Thoughts 1/31

Stuff I have been thinking about in the past week:

-I wonder if JK Rowling listens to The Who. Maybe she named the key member of the Quidditch team "The Seeker" after their song of the same name?

-I heard on the radio that Jan 30th was international "delete your Myspace page day". Does myspace even still exist?

-Can you believe that 2 seperate people have clicked on this blog after doing a Google search for the name Dan Pangburn? Faithful readers will remember that person as the one who fired the initial shot in the Global Warming war. There has also been 1 person who clicked on us after searching for the correct way to use the word adroitness in a sentence. No kidding.

-Why is "under par" a good thing but "sub-par" not a good thing?

-I want to say a thank you to the nice manager at BJ's Wholesale club who gave us $100 off on our new TV.

-Ben Franklin plumbing in Charlotte NC uses Tommy Tutone's 867-5309 Jenny in it's radio commercials with a really bad parody singer butchering the lyrics. (ie. Benny Benny won't you do some plumbing for me?)Something tells me that the real Benjamin Franklin would not be happy that his name is being used in this manner.

-Some one told me in the past week that they were taking a "Pre-emptive sick day" They weren't sick but were taking the day off from work so they wouldn't get sick. What the heck ????

-For some reason I was surprised when I found out that Gretta Van Susteren is a Scientologist.

-Big endorsement to Liberty Tax Service. This company was founded by the same guy who originally founded Jackson Hewitt) They really did a good thorough job on our taxes last weekend and didn't cost an arm and a leg. You may recognize them. They always have people out on the street dressed in statue of liberty costumes waving at cars.

-I still think that Boo-Berry is a cool name for a cereal. Even though I would never touch the stuff.

-If you haven't seen the Jerry O'Connell video poking fun at Tom Cruise you need to. My brother in law showed me last weekend and it is hilarious. "It's all about KFC" HA!

-Our black lab Morgan is the biggest mooch in the entire world. This dog eats his food, tries to eat the cat food and our sons food. He tries to eat our food, and tries to lick the dirty plates in the dishwasher, our son's spit up, and if we let him he would eat the cat turds out of the litter box. GOOD GRIEF!! I tell my wife that he is nothing but an 80 pound cockroach with fur.

-I was talking with someone last week who actually thought it was the "raise card" not the "race card" that they talk about being played. I didn't bother trying to explain to this person that they were wrong and that a raise card probably has something to do with poker because it would have been a waste of breath. But I did think to myself, Heck if was the "raise card" I think that I may have to play that one at work...

-I saw and article the other day entitled "Debunking that biggest video game myths" and thought to myself. Who cares?

-Senator Ted Kennedy recently came out and endorsed Barak Obama's run for the Presidency. What wasn't as widely reported was that he actually came out in favor of a full minority ticket and has endorsed Jose Cuervo for Vice President. Think about it....

Thursday Random Thoughts 1/24

Stuff I have been thinking about:

- I found out on Sunday that one of our friends from church as found our blog and reads it so she told my wife. (Hi Doris !!) That's great I love it...however the funny part was when she asked my wife, now your husband is Doc right? For some reason that question struck me as funny and I just died laughing.

-A friend of mine is flying from Georgia to Los Angeles this week to see a concert or should I say concerts. Nothing really out of the ordinary about that you say? Check this out. He is flying out to LA to see Garth Brooks in concert at the Staples center FIVE TIMES... Yes apparently Garth is doing benefit shows for the victims of the wildfires and my buddy is going to all 5 shows in one weekend. That is dedication ladies and gentleman.

-I usually eat a few gummy bears after lunch each day for desert. My two favorite flavors are red and clear.

-I heard on the radio the other day that there is apparently a nasty rivalry in the Northeast between Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts coffee. Like there is serious bad blood between the fans of each coffee. Maybe I should make a poll about it... I am kidding however I wonder if the Dunkin donut fans realize that their coffee is actually manufactured by S&D coffee right here in Concord NC?

-Am I the only one who actually tried to look up "Bagwine, Ohio" on a map ?

-When Vince suggested that we put up Travelin' Band as the theme music for our blog (an old reference to a conversation the two of had probably 10 years ago) I loved the idea. While searching youtube for the right video I actually paused for a minute and thought about trying to convince him that Tarzan boy by Baltimora would be a better choice. But I thought better of it.

-Pop Tarts taste sooooo good when you toast them until they are almost burnt.

-First John McCain's campaign almost went bankrupt this past summer. Then Rudy Guliani's staffers and advisers started to work for free when funds started running short. Now I read this week that Mike Huckabee's campaign advisers are doing the same thing and not accepting paychecks. Hmmmm I thought that the Republicans were the rich peoples party? Sounds like they can hardly afford to run. Take that a step further and it seems like they aren't even able to manage their own campaign finances very well, why should we trust them to manage our tax money?

-Why do crooks do really dumb stuff like trying to steal an alligator named Mr. Cranky Pants ?

-I went back and forth several times this week on which TV to buy but I think I have settled on the Samsung 42" Plasma HD instead of the LG.

-I had a Hardee's loaded omelet biscuit the other day and it was awesome. Hardee's (Carl's Jr. out west) stuff is underrated.

-Media reports say that Eminem has gained a lot of weight by sitting around the house and playing video games and drinking all day. His mother even says that he has really ballooned up. My thought is that Slim Fast needs to contact him about doing a weight loss campaign. That way he can start to call himself Slim-Fast Shady. I can hear it now, "Two Slim-Fast girls go round the outside, round the outside!"

Thursday Random Thoughts 1/17

Stuff I have been thinking about recently:

-I was wondering the other day if the origin of the rap "beef" goes back to the inter-music feud between the Van Zandts and Neil Young in Sweet Home Alabama ? Was this the first calling out in music? Did this fued inspire rappers to call each other out in their music? And did this in any way contribute to the deaths of Tupac and Biggie ?

-Goody's Powders are hands down the best non-prescription headache reliever EVER !!

-It's snowing here today which is really cool because it doesn't snow very often in Charlotte, NC.

-I found out this week that my Alma mater Lenoir-Rhyne College is considering becoming a university. What exactly would that change be? What the heck is the difference between a college and a university. Is there something there I am not getting?

-Am I the only one who doesn't have some sort of music for my cellphone ring tone? All I have is a boring "Ring-Ring" like an old rotary dial phone. It's my "retro" rebellion.

-$243,898 in assets and $180 million in liabilities. Who is that? Mike Nifong thats who. He filed for bankruptcy on January 15th. He deserves any punishment that gets handed down to him.

-I know that I was one of the last people to start paying my bills online but now that I have it sure was nice not to have to worry about writing checks for those annual life insurance premiums I usually forget about in January.

-I have been doing some thinking on this. Give a listen to Shakira and then Tracy Chapman their voices sound eerily the same don't you think? You don't think so? Listen again.

-Don't feel bad laughing at some of the American Idol reject singers. I heard a radio interview yesterday with the "Go down Moses, Let my people Go" singer. He said he was intentionally singing bad to get on TV because he is an actor and he wanted to get his face out there. He doesn't have a disability like someone I was watching the show with thought.

- I am actually very surprised that I really enjoy the music that I have heard off Fergie's album "The Duchess." I don't really care for the Black Eyed Peas but this album is good. Now am I the only one who thinks that Fergie's song Clumsy sounds like the beat track came straight from a Casio keyboard circa the 1980's ??

-I had a dead battery the other day and I wanted to again thank the nice lady whose name I don't know who let me borrow her battery for a jump so I didn't have to call AAA.

-Does anyone else LOVE the taste of Red Lobster's cheddar bay biscuits ??

-Tomorrow is the birthday of someone very special to me... It's the birthday of the best wife and mother I know of. I love you Sweetie and I hope you have a great birthday.

Thursday Random thoughts 1/10

Just some things running around in my head:

-Sirius satellite radio rocks but recently I have been getting a lot of satellite interference with the signal. No matter how I move the receptor I still get interference. VERY Annoying!

- My son turned seven months old on Sunday 1/6. He also said his first word. Da-Da! He has started to master saying it this week and now he yells DA-DA all the time. I love that kid!

- I heard on the radio the other day that there is a new book coming out that contends that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' daughter Surri is not his biological child but was actually conceived by a sperm donation from L. Ron Hubbard the deceased founder of Scientology. While probably not true it sure is funny as heck. Whoever wrote that book sure gets some credit in my book for originality.

- I read the other day that Amy Fisher the Long Island Lolita and her formerly estranged husband are coming out with a sex tape because "I always wanted to be No. 1 at something." Didn't your 15 minutes run out a long long time ago?

-The woman who asked Hillary Clinton the question that made her become emotional in New Hampshire earlier this week says that she still voted for Barak Obama because Hillary switched back to "politician" too quick after crying.

- Since Michael Vick's crime was committed against dogs then why shouldn't his sentence be carried out in dog years?

- Speaking of Michael Vick, it looks like he has entered drug rehab and may wiggle out of prison earlier than first thought.

- Since we are on sports I hope that some team (ANY team) can beat the New England Patriots so they don't win the Super Bowl. Hopefully they become an afterthought instead of a juggernaut.

- I am really looking forward to NASCAR season starting again soon.

- I read where American Idol winner Taylor Hicks lost his record deal. This is just further proof to what I have been saying for almost two years that Chris Daughtry was/is the TRUE American Idol.

- What would you have paid to be a fly on the wall when Dr. Phil came busting in to Brittney Spears hotel room and tried to counsel her? HA! I be the tirade that she went into would rival any tirade that Tommy Lasorda ever had.

- It's about this time every year that I see the little Girl Scouts with their fliers selling cookies and I remember just exactly how much I love the thin mint cookies. I don't eat a lot of sweets but I can eat those things by the sleeve.
